Friend was looking at this on Ebay, so went to have a look last night after SoVAG. All in all she's not too bad. And after a bit of chatting decided that i was going to get it!.

THE GOOD -

Polo 1 litre CL

1986, with just over 80,000 genuine miles

Had half a tank of fuel in her!

Runs , stops and starts. Goes in a straight line :-D

Panels straight, front valance and bonnet mint

Interior seats good (tho drivers one has usual sagging)

Came with original VAG hand books, and quite a bit of history

Drives suprisingly well

Head-lining mint

Externally, despite being faded to hell, pretty solid all round

THE NOT SO GOOD -

Drivers door is rotted out along the bottom - needs replacing.

Neither front seat folds forward (would be a problem for a mot), but i have allready decided to remove back seats and board it out with floor and 6x9's :-)

Doors cards pretty manky all round - will need a set guys..grey or black? not fussed

Both rear sill's have been welded some time in the past

Tail gate strut died

Bit of rot below rear bumper on drivers side - will need tidying

All in all I'm happy..bit of an impulse buy..not sure what my plans are..yet...just a weekend of t-cutting and hoovering

I bought a stripped out 1 from a friend, with MOT for £20 last year. Sold it on the 'Bay for £21!

Wish I'd kept it for spares now.

looks a bargain, theres some good polish on ebay called autosmart carnubba wax, you can get a kit that includes application spounge, colour restorer (their equiv of t-cut) wax and a micro fibre cloth. I payed £20 delivered and have to say it works wonders, havnt had to polish my tornado red polo for ages now!

those doorcards would be ideal for recovering, good excuse to build some door speaker pods in to! a set of alloys and a bit of a drop and it'll look spot on.

Carnuaba wax is not a polish. It is non abrasive wax and just adds depth of shine or "wetness". You will need a pretty aggressive polish to bring that back to red again. After you get it back to red with the polish, then use the wax to protect and give it a deep shine.

if you wanta decent finish dude i HIGHLY reccomend the meguires G220 posliher and eithe rpoorboys polishes or dodo juice poslies, both are my companies of choice ATM

Cheers guys..i work in a motorists centre lol, so I've got loads to choose from. Colour restorer T-Cut is probably the best to restore colour, then a good coat of wax.

polish/wax I'm sure the guy understood what i was on about. Anyhow its a kit which contains a polish aka the colour restorer and a wax aka the carnuaba wax which unlike a lot of motorist centre stocked items like auto glym and meguires is 100% pure yellow carnuaba, which I'm sure you will know is the good stuff. Obviously companies like megs and auto-glym offer similar products in their pro range but it does tend to be rather expensive in comparison.

good luck with getting it gleaming again, a polishing machine will make life a lot easier though as already suggested!

Over 5 hours later !

Had to remove ground in green shit with a toothbrush, used 4 buckets of hot soapy water just to get it clean enough

BEFORE i could start t-cutting it. Then spent all morning cutting it back. Wiped it all back, blacked up all the trim, and put a new

tail gate strut on it....

Since photos were taken , it's had new reg plates for MOT, and had paint work touched up!

Going in for MOT later in the week, then will prob be up for sale...
