Let me get this right when driving along you have the noise, when you press the clutch in to change gear the noise dissapears??

sounds like mine and I've been told clutch release bearing by some other boffins on here

mine is doing the same as above just after replacing clutch and flywheel, and the mechanic told me it's the gearbox on its way out when I went back at his garage thinking that it needed only some setting having just replaced the clutch and flywheel!

my car started making some really awful grinding noises increasing in noise the faster i drove, surely enough my differential collapsed so I've had new gearbox and clutch put on.... check it out before all goes wrong, seriously wrong as mine cracked the casing too

ouch! will take it to my mechanic this week to check it out.

your noise is the same as mine, so i'g get it checked asap!!!

and xcore you lost 5th gear cuz if you look at that thread you will see the final drive gear(5th) is attached to the differential.....

lol quality pictures, but unfortunately I'm completely stumped on that one!! possibly wheel bearing or something then?? i dunno sorry pal

haha cheers, as long its nothing major then i dont mind

if you get the whirring only when depressing your clutch it's the release bearing whirring! if it starts whining its def on the way out you'll just lose the use of your clutch if it disintergrates!
