It seems I now see the downside of not having an Apple player, in that all the links for the standard Audi stereos are for Ipods and just have an ipod socket on the end

Id rather not piss about behind the dash of the car anyway (previous car had a tape slot, so i just lazily used a tape input)

So... Can anyone offer advise as to what Fm transmitter thingy is actually any good?

My mate has a belkin one i think, and tbh, its shite and only ever worked when it was plugged into the ciggy socket which is just messy

ALSO,

as not being a fan of car audio and the never ending pursuit to stuff buttons and graphics into a 2" high space

What is the company that makes the stock looking headunits, that are actually pretty good?

I want something that is as simple as possible to operate, but has a decent amp, but needs an input for the same, Non apple! mp3 player would only be used for that and the radio

I've always gone for pioneer stuff...

You can get some nice looking cd players from somewhere likle car audio direct,

if u want to use ure ipod, just get a cd player with a front Auxilliary input then all you need is a cable wich is like 3 quid

you wont be able to controll it by the cd player... you just have to press skip on the ipod to go thru tracks...

I had a Nakamichi tape deck and the radio reception and tape playing really was absolutely amazing

But I don't know of any Naka head units that come with a line in?

The newest of the X100 Alpines is amazing - but no CD slot MP3 only! has Aux in and Ipod connector too!

Best transmitter is made by another company (mind blank!) and its called an iTrip - only downside is it runs off the ipods batteries and can flattent them really quickly! Plus in all the instruction these transmitter things say that they have to be within 90mm of the radio!

I already have the 77mp thingy I like that as the cd slot is not visible and was bought as it was easy to operate, but I have a horrible feeling that the illumination might of broken on it! and don't fancy buying the same thing again

I had a Google for Becker, and the grand prix? one looks good and I like the idea of bluetooth, but £260 is a fair bit to spend (probably going to need some decent speakers as well)

I really don't get car audio, home audio all the decent stuff, subtle designs and simplicity, but all the car audio is just gash!

we bought my missus little sister an iTrip and it works pretty well and I've used one of the generic Mp3 players with a cheapy transmitter in the glove box and worked reasonably well tbh

Well, in the end I returned to my Pioneer 77MP one, as it wasn't as broken as I first thought

My main reason being, I found by fluke on ebay whilst looking for something else, that you could get an Aux In adapter for a few quid for it, Result!

No idea why I didn't put it in earlier, its a cracking headunit, so simple! and I have been suffering an FM transmitter for too long!
