Right, swapped the engine in my GT, cannot find the number on the block, I have some details of the car it came from, anyone know if VW will have a record?

isnt it one the side of the block, under the thermostat housing?

Yeah thats right. It's a real pain in the arse to see though, I had to take the dizzy and thermostat housing off then get a wire brush and scrub.

Clean it up using some petrol then you should see it just a few mm's above the gearbox.
