Hi Guys,

I bought a set of multispokes in bad condition to try out the refurb process.

So far we have sanded down the wheels with 80 grit sand paper and got all the blemishes out we could with that. I also had to file down some very bad kerbing marks. We then used Chemical Metal to fill the kerbings marks and any other blemishes.

Here is the progress so far:

The next steps are to sand it down with 80 grit again, then work my way through up to larger grits i.e. finer sand paper.

Then coat each wheel with etch primer, 1 coat per wheel because that stuff is too expensive!

Then 2-3 coats of primer and leave for 24 hours to harden. Then key the surface by sanding.

I need to choose a colour to do the wheels in, when I have then do 2-3 coats per wheel.

Finally 2-3 coats of clear laquer!

Hopefully the results will be good!

good start, but i'd get the tyres took off tbh, because then you'll be able to shape the lip alot easier and it'll be easier to get the sand paper in. Use a block when sanding too.

He maybe a useless mackem, but hes right.

I love those wheels on a 6N. I think they look really right on the car. Makes a nice change from the usual scene wheels people always put on.

We went to three tyre shops and they were all asking for £10. That is way too much for getting tyres taken off..any way we could do it ourselves?

Err there going on my lupo..got Tooras on the polo, if all goes well with this refurb then they will be next in line! I am not really into the dish thing, having said that we do have a pair of dish alloys on our trailor haha!

Dude I tried that! Didn't get very far! I used an electrical jigzaw, the blade broke, then tried a tree cutting saw, and that can't get passed the metal strings.

Any tips?

£10 is a joke.

My local tyre place does it for about £2.

Try and find some small independent garages or go in early one weekend and offer to buy the dude a bacon butty and they normally whip them off in no time

heartagam (Kam if I remember correctly) these mofos would not budge, so we thought allow it..

£10 for all four doesn't sound to bad. I went to a place that wanted £10 a tyre and I just laughed as I walked out.

Ahh I am youtubing tyre removal..

ohhh £10 for all 4, thats not bad at all mate.

You wont get it any cheaper unless you know a guy, they are hard to remove yourself.

Little tip, try going to a place that does Trucks or Vans

They are alot sounder then the pricks at big tyre companies and have much better prices.

lol I get my tyre services for free :) as does kam now that he abuses my free tyre fitting privilages.

A jobs only worth doing if your going to do it properly.

If your quibbling over a tenner to do a job properly your not going to get very far with cars!!

You don't have to take them off, but how are you going to sand the bit where the tyre is at the moment? Your not going to get any access so your going to end up with shit edges. Which is pretty much what your starting off with! Plus when you have the tyres off they are much lighter and easier to work with.

if you want to keep the tyres on, keep them on, but I'll be waiting for your PM telling me I was right and that you just wished you'd had the tyres taken off in the first place.

Does chemical metal still harden without harder when exposed to air? I am guessing the tin is air tight if closed properly.

Tyres are off...not all or the chemical metal has hardened, and we left it over night! Some bits need to be redone as I think some got scraped off when the guy took the tyres off.

Update 22-07-08

Got through two wheels today after work..the first picture was taken when I had finished sanding number 1, the second picture was taken when I had finished sanding number 2!

We put the chemical metal on before the tyres got removed which is why there is missed out section, will fill that tomorrow.

Any ideas on what colour to go for?

I want something with a pearl effect...

I have, look at the 7th picture from the top, see if you can spot the slash!

We have put some more chemical metal on each wheel where applicable.

Will take some more pics when we have sannded them down again..
