Thats one of the funnyest posts I've seen on here.

According to parkers:

0-60 Top Speed BHP

Saxo VTS: 1.6i 16V VTS 3d (99) 7.6 s 127 mph 120 bhp

Lupo GTi: 1.6 GTi 3d 8.0 s 127 mph 123 bhp

so in theory, saxo would win

my 1.4 ABD/GT does 8.65 to 60, so not far off, eats vtr's tho lol

fact of it is. in about 5 years time. the lupo will still be road legal, where as the french car will be a heap of scrap. shame really. they made such things as 205 gti and the renault 19 and 21. i love them. but french cars now are officially shit. espesh new stuff

Bullshit.

care to elaborate :)?

Yeah fair enough

Go look at your average 6n Polo or Mk3 Golf and tell me they'll still be on the road in 5 years time!

true. but thats only the boy racer owned ones. sorry I'm just a big fan of really mint cars. you know like the grannies who own mark 2 fiestas that have done 4 miles in its lifetime lol. most people dont look after there cars properly anymore :( thats why i like retro vw owners they do all there own work and actually like looking after there car. what you drive atm?

Nothing. Escort sold yesterday, I'm between cars. Although I might put my Mk2 Golf back on the road for a little while.

how much did you get for the escort mate? and you got any pics of your mk2?

I do like VW but lets not be bios here. The price of a Polo is nearly double to a 106 or Saxo. They use thin gauge metal which is anouned for dinting easy thats why you never see a straight citreon/peugeot. But they dont rust badly the bodywork is undersealed properly. And are very good in chrashes renault is one of the safest cars to be in in a crash. They are anouned for bad electrics, to many gizmos to go wrong with. But there cheap and you get what you pay for. Although the diesel engines are very good and you will find even Honda use parts from French Diesel engines. Hdi engines are one of the best diesels around. As for the Petrol they are pretty well built engine in fact there better than lets say Ford, fords bodywork is very poor.

I agree, I've had a 106 for my 1st car a 1.1 and it was miles faster than my 1.0 MPI polo my 106 went of the clock 115mph struggle to do 95 in my polo the polo has no accerleration either compared to a 106 1.1.

A 1.0 8 valve mk4 against a 1.6 vts 16 valve obviously, he'd beat the stig in a race quality driver.

Your mate cant drive for shit then.

I honestly beleive that you cant really buy a bad car these days.

VW, Audi, Ford, Renault, Citroen, Skoda, Seat, BMW etc etc all make decent cars, that run well and have decent quality interiors.

The gaps between the manufacturers are much smaller these days.

You cant put a Polo over the 106/SAXO the cost is a big factor!!!

I think cost is a relative word.

My cars might have been slightly more expensive then the french counter part.

But if you buy used you loose less money in the long run, so the wedge that you shelled out origionally is only a big investment and not loss.

Put simply.. 5k polo that is worth 4.5k a year later is better then a Saxo that cost 3k and is worth 500quid or scrap metal.

I ment cost to the manufactrer when the cars are built the french will make it less good qaulity than a VW lets say thats because VW spend more money/time on build quality then the french do. Plastics are used to cut costs and keep prices low with french cars. What am getting at look how much a new Polo is relate that back to a 107 look at the price difference. Toyota Yaris, Citreon C2, Peugeot 107 same build quality built in same factory. Why do you think VW brought the FOX out so that they could cut on price to match a Citreon or Peugeot but they still cant because far less to build a french car. They practically give them away compared to anyone else.

ok so what about the low mileage full service history mk4 16v that dublass sold a couple of months back?

surely low mileage and full service history would show that a car has been well looked after and not been ragged, but the body work was shot, the lad that had it off her spent shit loads sorting that out. mk4s rust, some don't, but a lot do. now when a lot of cars suffer from the same problem it shows that they have a common fault, and if they have a common fault its a sign of either or both... major design floors/poor build quality. either way mk4 polos rust like mk2 fiestas which is a really bad sign...

iam really getting fed up of a thread i have made !!!! all this biccering lol

you bum dub booys just gota face up to the facts lol ;)

Basically i had a vts few years back on cams and shizz, fookin quick, had a renault 5 gt turbo behind me, we was both licking it down, he tried it but it just didnt happen, the vts shifted! i was suprised, the gap between both of us stayed the same and he went of in shame somewhere! two weeks later the vts died on me- engine gone- enough said.

So a vts would kick ass against a lupo gti no doubt.

Have you seen a saxo crash test?

Here it is:

Same age lupo:

I know which one I'd walk away from! Renault makes safe cars, peugeot and citroen don't.

this thread made me laugh and is now boring me so here you go......

Keeping in a performance orientated mind set I present the following as a counter argument to your ill informed statement:

Renault Sport Clio 172/182/Cup/Trophy

Renault Sport Clio 197/R27

Renault Sport Megane R26/R26-R (when it comes out)

Renault Sport Twingo 133/Cup

Some of the best front wheel drive hot hatches ever made...

...Citroen and Peugeot aren't doing much exciting at the moment but make good cars for the regular market.
