Mk2 Escort Cosworth

Featured Replies

this is my mates project, a mk2 escort that was originally an RS, but he found a cossie turbo lump with everything, ECU, gearbox the lot!!!

this is the original colour, he's thinking of changing the colour but i'm persuading him not to. There is still alot of work needed, but there is now no rust on the car, all the panels have been treated for rust and the bad panels replaced. A full Cage is going in, with buckets. He wants it as a track toy. RWD fun aswell

I love this car, it's awesome

enjoy

it's not running properly yet by any means, the exhaust still need making up, it needs mapping etc

i'll keep you updated with it as and when stuff happens

no idea, but the cossie lump is good for 280bhp with a little fettle of the old ECU, he could go mad but the rear axle wont stand the power for long

the paint just needs freshening up but yeh i love it

thats a jizzin' brute!

same engine my neighbour runs in his ex f3 car that does low 10s

The stuff i dream about! One day...

Love it. Love Mk1 + Mk2 escorts.

a mechanic i go to has got one of these at the back of his workshop, i think his planning on using it for trackdays. hes sending it off soon to get it blasted  really hope its not full of filler.

the bodyshell that lump should always of gone in, hate anything ford newer, but the mk2 is awesome!

Love the colour and original graphics :unibrow: . I wouldn't have gone it the turbo lump, prob. a bit OTT and not really in keeping with the car...throaty carbs/itb's ala old Escort rally cars would have prob. been a better match for the chassis. No doubt it'll be quick in a straight line though.

Don't these cars have Mk3 Polo style front suspension lay outs?

Don't these cars have Mk3 Polo style front suspension lay outs?

Yeah exactly the same setup.

But seeing as the front wheels aren't doing the driving as well as steering, they won't quite suffer from the same dodgy handling characeristics.

My dad had a reasonably good condition Mk2 RS2000 on twin Weber 45 DCOEs, he sold it with MOT and Tax for £800... and that was the going rate 8 years ago

Try getting one for less than £5k now!

Ahh, MK2 1600 Sport, that was the second car I ever bought - waaay back in 1985!

Personally I don't like the colour of that one, I much prefer mk2 Escorts in white. The YB conversion is all good, but I know what Tav means - sidedraugts/throttle bodies do sound the bollocks and suit this type of car more.

I think with this fairly conservative spec YB it should be good allround. Tav, as I said in the other post about the 1.8T conversions in Golf's, it's only when people start fitting a very high spec engine with whopping great turbo on that they become noothing more than willy waving, wheelspinning, tyre smoking and going nowhere slowly cars.

As stated, mk1-2 Escort's do have the same front suspension layout of the >mk3 Polo. However, being RWD they drive about 10 times better (as in more fun and feel/control) than the Polo. Coupled with leaf springs (and radius arms on the AVO/RS models) it should be crap to drive on the road, but they are so controllable and predictable. Muchos fun!

Lovin that 8-)

actually i think you'll find the polo has the escort suspension lay out!

theres normally loads of photos of escorts pulling out of corners on the power with a front wheel in the air.

love it...bet it goes like SINK!

if its an rs how cme it doesnt have the nose cone?

my mate has a 4 door with a tuned to fuck 1300 crossflow in it that goes well enough

Sex!!!
