I bet your insurance is well cheap.

Looks nice, bet it's fun!

Maybe the car is still logged as a 1.4

can you tell me how your insuring that? Cos I'm 20 and it would cost a bomb to insure me on that

lol simple on v5 it says ''vw polo 1.4 CL'' as car but engine size its say ''1800cc'', so wen insurance ask whats the car its still a polo 1.4 CL so I'm technically telling the truth, because its still that car just with a bigger engine in ;) :p if you get me lol

No, you're withholding information from them when they ask "has the car got any modifications?". So you are still lying to your insurance. Tell them the truth mate.

Welcome to CP

Just make sure you dont crash it insurance will screw you ;)

But surely you have to tell your insurance company you have modified your car and put a diffrent engine in, other wise if you crash you are guna be without insurance.

you may aswell be driving with no insurance mate,,,youd get paid the same if you stack it.

Does look abit of a beastie.

I'd get it insured for its true worth if i was you. If you have an accident (fingers crossed you dont), the insurance assessor will know its been changed and then you could end up in alot of trouble!

Looks nice mate, just need to sort the styling out a bit.

If you dont mind me asking how much did the car cost you?

hmm, your invalidating your insurance haha

welcome to the club tho :)

tbh this year is the first time my insurance is valid, the first 3 years my cars were always insured as 'standard'. If you have little bumps with people, just pay in cash for their damage. When you get pulled by the police you can still wave the insurance cert in front of them.

Actually, you have no valid insurance at all. The police would have a field day too, when (not if) they pull you over.

You'd never be able to riggle out of it if your insurance company found out, as they think they are insuring a 1.4 CL Polo as opposed to a heavily converted car with a bigger turbocharged engine. All mods declared? Err no. They'd put the phone down/close the door behind you quicker than you can ever imagine if you had to go to them.

TBH, I think you will struggle to get insured on this car at all, even on your parents policy. Many policies won't allow named drivers to drive anything above a certain engine size or more importantly insurance group until they are over 21, some even 25 yrs. Heavily modified cars can be even worse to insure when you are young.

Kerrly reckons "if you have little bumps with people you can pay in cash for their damage". The majority of people wouldn't be interested in "cash settlements" when you've just dented or scuffed the bumper on their own fairly new or company car. If you had a fully comprehensively covered 2 year old, 15 grand car would you take cash off some scrote thats just knocked into it?

Good luck, I think you'll need it.

Did you just call me a "scrote"???

i'm the same, and all of my cars have cat 1 alarms fitted too

the only things not covered on my current golf are the clear lights (they've been on and off the car so many times so i'd of had to keep phoning them up and i cba), but i always have tools in the car so if i have a prang i'll just smash them, and if the other party has a problem with that i'll just explain that if i don't my insurance is void and they won't be able to get a penny off me.

but in all fairness i think a 20vt is pushing it a bit mate, if it was an engine that basically looked the same as the original one then you could get away with it, but you can't hide the fact its a much bigger engine with a massive turbo hanging off it

lol

"Scrote", yeah it looks like I did kerrly but I didn't mean it directly!

However, if you did hit my modern comprehensively insured car and offer me a cash settlement, I'd call you more than that!

you'd have to be careful what you called him tho breadman, Mike is a day walker thus he has the power of hell fire at the tip of every folical...

Perfect answer......

Mate you fucked you really are, if you try and re insure it now they will laugh at you, i told you even a 20 year old driving for 2 years got get touched on that! I think your mad, should have looked into this in the first place, or are you the type that dont care? If so then, good luck to you, just think everytime you drive it, you could get caught! I wouldnt want that worry hanging over me.

If you dont re insure it and leave it as a "1.4 CL" then your gonna get absolutely done, you'll find it hard to insure a moped when they find out.

The reason I'm so interested is because i want to do something like this to mine, but unlike you i am abidding by the law and waitin until I'm 21 to insure it properly. I dont care if it costs me over £2000, at least i'll be safe and covered in the event of an accident!

If i was you I would sell it, get yourself a lil 1.0L and build up 3 years no claims on your own policy until your 21 then insure something crazy. I wish I'd done that, instead i did the named driver thing, and at 20 after 2 years have nothing to show for it.

Take my advice mate and do the right thing.

Hope it all works out for you though

why cant he just buy another 1 litre, drive that as a daily and spend 3 or 4 years building this up to perfection, he could still race in on track days.

what ecu is the conversion running? and 8.5k excluding the engine/car cost seems a bit high, i would have thought the project would have cost over 4k but nowhere near 8.5.

good luck with it tho, 2k isnt a bad price (mind you for 1k more, you could have got the same engine modded to 300bhp in a mk1 golf, fully moted/taxed and the car had a full ground up resto.)

hmmm yea true, i will re insure it soon then just incase

I think this guy is going to be gutted if he ever tried to insure it properly, your going to have to wait a long before anyone would even consider insuring you. A lot of insurance companies won't even touch this car and those who would are going to want a BIG sum of money.

You shouldn't be driving this car on the road...no valid insurance leaves you with a huge string of problems if you have an accident. If you hurt someone and they need an injury payment it'd probably come out of your pocket...and given that settlements are often well into the tens of thousands and sometimes hundreds of thousands it could ruin your life. Think most insurance schemes come with a few £100k of cover for that.

You're in well over your head with this one and potentially you could get yourself into a lot of trouble. 17 year old just don't have cars like these.

What's to stop someone pointing this thread out to the police for example? Might be funny: http://www.cleveland.police.uk/have_your_say/contactus.htm

I am the god of Hellfire! And I bring you, FIRE! do do doo

I say sell it to me tbh :D

Your never gonna be able to insure it, and WHEN you crash it, your going to be up a certain creek without a boat, let alone a paddle.

nice car pal

nice, good luck getting insured!

sort the wheels and bumpers out for 16v items and your onto a winner
