Sorry mate, I had similar experince to you when I startted driving (not 1100's, but some pretty lairy crossers), and I totally disagree. It doesn't make any sense for it not to work like bikes, with power to weight ratios and the like. Case in point for people with track experience was a lad round this way who was a pretty top notch gokart racer, on the night he passed his test, he put a small hot hatch in a ditch in a bad way.

Yeah but no road going car with road legal tyres on an average road will handle/drive the same way as a racing kart on a race track

Most of the farmers round here have a nice little technique. When their lads learn to drive, they buy them a diesel Escort van. 1.8 derv, 50hp, and a half tonne payload. Leave a couple of bags of feed in the back and that slows them down nicely. At the same time, they can only carry one person, so they don't feel the need to show off to a car full of mates.

No, at 1/4 mile events and track days, places 99% of car enthusiasts love. Poor guys have to wait years to finally be able to drive legally then be smacked in the face with a power limit "what did you run in your m5 Chad?" "oh i ran a 1min 30 Zack" "what?! arent they good for 12`s?" "yeah!, but i haven't grew that magical part of brain yet, so my de-restriction points arent high enough. guess i`ll just have to wait untill I'm 21 when i automatically get a mysterious dose of commen sense" "PWN3D" " "

You "could" be putting yourself and others at risk if you go out on the roads on a pushbike, if youre not bright enough to realise the road is a dangerous place. AGAIN some 18 year olds do, some dont. Hell even some 40+ year olds still dont realise that

Yeah the m5 spanner probs did think it was the right time and place, but he was a douche and over did it, plus didnt think about possible consequences and the safety of his "friends"

One more time, some 18 year olds think (or dont rather) like that, others do realise it can go tits up so plan ahead, like maybe asking their mates to get out (or sign a disclaimer )

I just want to dispel the opinion that all late teens are irresponsible and hot-headed when they are driving. i am just 19 and have been driving 2 years, last year my parents had an accord type R, which i drove sometimes and i never felt the need to rag it. They now have a VR6 which i also drive sometimes, often with mates in and it doesnt whether they egg me on or not, I'm not gona drive like a dick and I'm sure there are many teens that would feel the same. Rules like restricting wont do much as the majority of crashes are at around 40/50mph. I think that instead of paying £25 for each driving lesson and around £90 for the the written and practical test, new drivers should be educated through skid pans etc. Just my opinion but i dont see it right to punish everyone for the stupidity of a minority

I've had friends who brag about doing 100mph+ on roads, which in my opinion is just stupid. I once set off to see what the car would do, but decided against it when I was bairly above 70, because its just not worth it.

It's incredible to think that the drivers I know do that- especially since last year we had 2 deaths in a car accident of people from our school.

I know why they do it, as there is a thrill to it, but that is BECAUSE we know we're on the limit and we're risking our lives by doing it. With risks, you can be lucky, or unlucky where unfortunately for him the consiquences were severe.

No-one has the experience (except l race drivers) of those sorts of speeds, be it 18 or 28 or even 58. I do not think it was down to his age or even driving ability (although that might have contibuted to it) but down to his immaturity, and thus should not have been allowed to be behind the wheel of that car. I think it is more a matter that most 18 yr olds do not have the maturity to know when to draw the line that leads to their accidents rather than poor driving skill.

I hope it was not a late night activity planned by member of the forum that lead to his death, and then abandonned the crash site- or maybe that just gave him the idea.

Either way it's a tragic story. I only hope that I have learnt from it.
