I thought sponges were a detailers arch enemy?

Sponges are EVIL don't use them Actually why would you need so many sponges when you have a megs wash mit sat there as well?

I dont take pictures of my cleaning stuff. hehe I've got a lot of meguiars but I'm not feeling it to be honest, think

i'll change to something else next time.

Detailers say sponges are bad but sod it, i use sponges, i dont have a show car though.

moves small stones and grit around on the paintwork iirc, i use one and havnt really noticed any scratches

Particles and contaminants stick to a sponge whilst washing your car with them, then when you wipe another area with your sponge you can cause light scratching and swirl marks!

havnt washed my car in 2 months since i got it tbh! doesnt look dirty at all though lol

My car only gets washed when it rains.

Actually it depends what car I've got. I bought a mit and another washing thing when i had my nice car but yorkshire water + meguiars + mitt = No lather and bad clean. I also bought a clay bar thing but i cant use it at all hahaha

I don't own a lot of cleaning products myself as I don't really enjoy cleaning the car, but Stuart is pretty up to speed with keeping the cars looking in top shape. Once you branch out from your regular Autoglym/Megs products and get a hold of some proper detailing kit it is amazing to see just how good some of the products are. Between Stuart & Pidge I think they've got just about every quality product you could need...mostly sourced from http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk as they are just down the road...if it's good enough for the professionals...

Spent 120 quid there yesterday Pidge has just got a foam lance plus Megs Hyperwash so I am looking forward to him covering my car in shaving foam. Wouldn't use any Autogylm products these days apart from the bumper care.

So what is so good about the meguiars mits people use to wash their cars, do they not collect dirt and particles?

If you are using a yellow sponge, all the grit sits on the surface and gets scraped around your paint.

If you use a lambswool wash mitt, the grit and dirt goes down into the lambswool and does not touch the paint, then you rinse it out after each panel and start the next one.

Dont buy a meguiars one though, they arent that good. And dont buy a microfibre mitt, the lambswool ones are way better, and arent even dearer. Get a Sonus lambswool mitt from cleanyourcar.co.uk, they are £8, see link below, fantastic quality and last for ever if looked after, I've been using the same one for over 2 years.

I suggest you go to www.polishedbliss.co.uk and read their detailing guides, they are very good.

But dont buy anything from them, they are too expensive. Go to www.cleanyourcar.co.uk to actually buy stuff.

I have too much detailing stuff to list here, PC 7424, Gilmour Foammaster, a lot of megs, menz, CG, PB, Sonus, some AG and many other random items. Mitts, towels, drying towels, pads, applicators, brushes, polishes, glazes, metal polishes, sealants, waxes, wheel cleaners, degreasers, APCs, rubber and plastic cleaners and protectants, etc etc. And yellow sponges, they do have their place for cleaning wheels and stuff.

Wouldn't use any Autogylm products these days apart from the bumper care.

Actually, vinyl and rubber care, engine and machine degreaser, autofresh, glass polish, fast glass, and super resin are very good products by AG that can be used to great effect, and the only ones i make use of by them. They are a strange manufacturer as some of their products arent that great like the shampoo and bumper care whilst others are fantastic.

As for meguiars, they have some good products too although the only megs products i use are from their detailer range and not their normal range. They just get mentioned a lot because they do a lot of advertising but they arent the best. Sonus, Chemical Guys, and some Poorboys are much better. Thats just megs normal range tho, the megs detailer range is awesome.

Well actually there is one awesome product in the megs normal range. The "endurance high gloss" tyre gel. That gear is awesome. Smells class too :p

Hey Vpolo, if i was you i would invest in a decent lambswool wash mitt, and a rinse bucket, and also some good shampoo cos the AG one is dung. This is one of the best bucket shampoos and is well priced too:

Would be £15 altogether, not too bad. I find that the best detailing stuff is often the best priced too, the lesser quality but more known names tend to be dearer.

They will have a tap but your best bet is to clean the car properly before you go and then give it a wipe over with some QD and a MF cloth

i like to see a bit of detailing going on!

to show how bad a jumbo sponge is on your paint, i you were to get a cd and wipe it with a sponge you will see it scratches it very easily, and this effectively what you are going to your cars paint!
