I own one, never drove a mk3 (and never will) so cant compare

But they are pityfully slow, slower than my old mk4 1.4 8v and thats saying something

i have a 1.3 C mine's that slow it couldn't even catch the L  but i don't think it would matter much as 1043cc mk3's are shit slow anyways,get a golf!!!

:D

We was gonna set up a little cliquey 1.3 mk2 club on elition38, would of been sweet  rolling in last to all the shows as we couldnt keep up

If you do get one, get rid of the pooberg ASAP  i swear those things are the devil :x

Well I want something with a bit more oomph so ideally I'd like a Polo Gt but they seem to be rocking horse shit at the mo! My poor 1l is starting to get a little abused as I get straight out of my 3.5l diesel into it.. it just feels soooo slowwww nowdays

walsh I'm keen for the cliquey club, would be a laugh, fashionably late in style...Bike carbs FTW dude, sack pooberg's!!! pm me details about this club matey,we should sort it out...

www.cheshiredubs.co.uk walshc my name is jamie on there, find my thread for my golf...I've finally slapped pics on editon in the mk2 section too, name is dollar bill on there...lots of alias' so no-one can find me  think I've just rumbled myself :p

I've had one and i thought it was alright. I used to zoom home along the motorway at 80 no problem. If your abusing your

1ltr then you'll do the same to the 1.3 golf. And they're like rocking horse poo aswell at the moment because most people just scrap them :-(

Thats what I thought :( Think I'll just have to hold out for some mpi fun

I have one

It's slow as hell. End of.

It's got a 268° symmetrical Newman cam and a Polo GT bottom end and did have a Weber DMTL, and it's still slow. With engine mods, it just about beat the 1.2 16v Corsa Cs.

Oh... and because it's slow you'll be thrashing the hell out of it. My mpg varied between 20-25 mpg, once or twice I might have got high 20s.

It's off the road getting an engine transplant

They beat Saxo VTR's uphill though

Fooking hell, really didn't expect them to be quite that slow. How much do they weigh then?

845 kg.

They are quicker than a standard 1.0 Mk3

But my 1.0 Mk3 wasn't standard

so thats only an extra 75kg on a mk3 polo, not as much as I thought it'd be if i'm honest

They aren't much heavier no

But if you were wanting something a bit quicker I wouldn't get one. They are really not economical either.

A GT would be ideal. There must be a cheap one somewhere

only that red squareback in cheshire (or at least thats the only one I know of) and I'm not a fan of squarebacks really

Never owned one but took one on a long test drive and it was almost as slow as walking

I thought mk2 Golfs were about 1250kg?

I'm not allowed back on there dude  **elition38 - where youre not allowed to say what you think, unless your views are shared by everyone else**

This was about a year and 1/2 ago too, nothing was really going to happen :cry:

Yeah i recon youve just got down with pj and duncan there

Get a thread up on here about the golf

Nope

A G60 Syncro or Rallye with electric windows, air con, central locking, 4 wheel drive, electrically adjustable leather seats, big heavy G-lader etc is still considerably lighter than that.

A Mk4 Golf GTI is lighter than that!

Yep. In fact, the BMW Mini Cooper 1.6i is heavier than the MK4 Golf GTi 2.0i 8v.

several of my friends used to have 1.3 mk2 golfs, I've been in them loads. They're aren't the slowest thing I've been in but not really much different to a 1.3 mk3 polo, poss a touch slower due to a bit of extra weight. 4 speed gearbox is annoying on the motorway though.

4th in my 5 speed Coupe S is taller than 4th in the 4 speed Golf I think

there's a cool looking mk2 loon GT conversion in the for sale...
