aron if you find the polo slow then why are you looking at other small engined vw's? GT's are ok and are fun, but if you thrashing a 1 liter then you'll still be thrashing a GT tbh. either way it don't sound like the 1.3 mk2 is what your looking for, maybe a 1.8 driver? still not fast, but maybe more what your looking for.

Nah cos most of my driving is city driving so need something that's still gonna be economical and pref in the lower tax bands.

1.3 SPI Mk3, or an NZ powered one if you can find one.

If they are anything like a Mk2 Coupe S then they'll happily trundle along at 15 mph in 4th and still move when you push the throttle down.

If you ever do go on a run, the 8P box has a nice 5th gear too, so should break 50 mpg on the motorway.

Really really wouldn't recommend a 1.3 Golf for town work. I could drain a quarter tank doing 50 miles in town, and it's a 55 litre tank. Possibly mine was just fucked but nobody I know who has had them has had particularly impressive economy.

Yeah but I could see myself with an spi or even nz and still be wanting a Gt 6 months down the line so I think I'm just gonna wait it out a little while longer for a half decent Gt and see what comes up

1.3 Mk1 Golfs are alright, but Mk2's are hard work, end of. Not sure if it's faster, but I'd rather drive a 1 litre polo.
