Hello Id just like to know the pros and cons of a 10inch vs a 12 inch sub, is there any major differences, like is the 12 inch ALOT louder?

Ne advice would be appreciated

not so much louder as 12" move more air, so they're bassier, but a 10" is punchier

or get the best of all worlds and get a 12" with a bass cube B)

The pioneer sub I want is the same price for both sizes

the 10 inch is 1000 max, and 350 Nominal

the 12 inch is 1200 max, and 400 nominal

The amp is 400w, so I was thinking 10 inch, as with the 12 inch it would be underpowered woudnt it? What do you think?

go for the 12 then as its best suited and if you buy the 10 you will all ways wish you got the 12

oh yea and go of the rms powers and ohms not what it says on the box

will it be okay thought with just 400w, when its rated at 1200 max (nomial rms is 400w tho)

you want the amp to be a bit more powerful than the RMS of the sub, or the amp will be pushed hard all the time, let alone when you turn it up, i'd say a 600W amp RMS for a 400w RMS Sub

all @ 4ohms btw

Well I would like the 400watts rms Sub

Thing is the current amp I'm looking at is 200 x2 + 400w, with the 2 x 200w for two componenents

I'm sure a 2 x 200w + 600w amp is expensive, and I've yet to find one

Have you got any amp recommendations

Btw i have 2 60watt rms (220 max) components for the front

so bascially I need a good, but cheap as possible 3 channel amp, if this makes sense

you will have to get a 4 channel amp and bridge the 2 rear channels to run the sub and use the front 2 for the components

yea, thats what i was thinking about :)

sorry to rain on a few people's parades here.... Buuuuuuuut... it is not as simple as stating a 10 is more punchier than a 12 and a 15 is better for rap and D&B etc..

i think the main thing that is being forgotten here are things like what type of box is going to be used?? has a MAJOR bearing on the type of sound produced by the sub.. the way the sub is constructed.. this also has a major bearing on how the sub responds... brand of sub and power handling of the sub does not really tell you this and the size of the sub alone is not enough to determine how it will sound..

also a major fact is that is the person who is going to listen to it might not really know the difference between punchy and any other definition being thrown about...

a good example of this is asking people to state what frequency they think they are hearing in tracks they think have low bass lines... it always shocks people.. another factor is that if u want punchy bass u really need to have a strong mid bass presence too as this makes the punchy bass sound come through to the human ear better...

more proof that size of driver does not always mean a certain type of bass is by looking at monitor speakers used in places like BBC recording studio's.. the B&W speakers they use (dont know if they still do) ended up being released for home use and had 15" woofers in them... listen to em playing dance and punchy basslines and you would never believe it was from a 15" driver..

i think the easiest way to resolve this is by 1st knowing your budget, then how much space you are willing to sacrifice.. also do u wanna simply pound the ground or are u content with playing everything at 1/4 of the volume on a short drive to work? then a sub recommendation would be more helpful to you and the people trying to help you will have an easier time recommending something...

You will need to get those crossed over with 8 playing higher than the 15 otherwise they'll just cancel each out.
