does any one know if the antiroll bar at the front of my polo gti should touch the chassis at the bend where it bolts into the mounting as mine is for some reason and i think is knowckin on bumps

Have you lowered it? This happened on my 6n after lowering and I just removed the bar in the end.

its never knocked before and its been at this high for 6 months

yer i ofund out that its because its too low that and the drop links on the anti roll bar haven't been changed its why this is hit the chassis just gotta try and find where to get diff drop links from now tho

i've never seen different drop links myself

my solution was to lower it more and grind away some of the metal

it turns out that you cant get diff drop links for these there is two options one is raise the car and the other is se if you can get a metal fabricator to make yuo a new longer anti roll bar

or you could grind it a bit or remove none of them i would recommend tho as it will weaken it but wil lsolve the prob I'm going to see if i can get 1 made as it only need to be botu 1/2 inch longer so it dont knock

You could just remove the ARB... Not as if you need it with coilovers!

I removed my ARB and found that the ride was improved as my suspension was free move about as before it was restricted by the ARB touching the chassis.

As your car is lower there will be less roll so not much need for the ARB.

I don't see why it shouldn't pass an MOT without it. It could possibly fail with the ARB touching the chassis.

Is there a after market ARB that might help? Or is it a custom job?

see I'm a bit reluctant to remove mine because this polo handles better than my old one (which didnt have anti-roll bars). the suspention is the same as i swapped the coilies, wishbones and bushes off the old one, so the setup is the same.

it didnt knock for about 4 months after i lowered it, until i took it to a shite garage to get new wheel bearings (they did a shite job of putting it together, camber all over the place, tracking out). i have tried playing about with it and have got the shorter drop links, but it still knocks. only other thing i can think of is to have the chassis(sp) rails adjusted...

I thought this would have been happening to more people...

I've had a knocking noise for a while on the passenger side, it didnt sound like the suspension, had a little look 2nyt while tinkering with my coilies and can see the arb has been rubbing and knocking on the body, was wondering if other models of the 6n2 had a diff arb or dont have 1 as my gti isnt that low and I'm lowering it more for spring fest??

i cut all the sealent off mine (there it rubs on the chassis), heated it up and reshaped it (the chassis) so it didn't run on the arb, mine only did it on the passenger side though.

mine only knocks on the passenger side too steph, I've tried moving it about in the mounts and not found any different. also there is 2 options on the drop links, one is shorter than the other. I've changed to shorter ones but it still knocks.

i had an idea the other day, BUT I'VE NOT TRIED IT YET SO DONT KNOW IF IT WILL WORK...

the drop link is fitted with a rubber donut each side of the wishbone.

if the drop link is fitted without the donut on the top, it should sit about 10mm - 15mm lower, hopefully enough to stop the knocking. the thred on the link will probs need making longer so the nut can go on further.

the one downside i can see is there wont be as much flex in the way it is mounted, so it may lead to premature failure of the drop link.

ill give it a go when i get round to it. could be a nice easy(ish) fix for us!

seems like my arb has stopped knocking, after lowering more it was banging on the drivers side a lot but seems like its made itself a home in my body work n is quiet now so seems that to solve the problem u need to go lower lol!

ill need new coilies to do that as mine are siezed! lol

its not now just sitting on the arb is it? has it got more bumpy/harsh since lowering it more?

what confuses me about this issue is that a few of us didnt have the problem straight away. i know suspension will settle a lil lower than when you first fit it, but i changed mine straight over from the old car so they should have been settled (i know if you jack a car up it will take a lil while to settle, but not a few months!).

hopefully next weekend ill try what i sugested above with the drop link rubbers. let me do the testing before anyone else tries it, as i do have a bit of a feeling it will kill the drop links due to the lack of movement! lol

yeah the arb is just touching the body all the time but hay ho! it is more bumpy but thats becoz I've adjusted my damping to rock hard but its not back breaking.

i didnt have the knocking from the get go just happend a month or so ago n my coilies been on since sept mayb but i haven't driven it all the time as its been so poorly. seems fine to me how it is at the mo tho so ima leave it alone, just hope its not an issue with mot?

Hello guys! I have been woundering about this since last summer. My Polo was laying on the ARB all summer, and was stiff as hell! Because it lays on the ARB it is no damping. And it stops me from going lower. I want to go lower this year, so somthing must be done. I have seen the posebility of modding the rubber mount that is on each side of the wishbone.

As "bob_drinks_beer" says over here, the rubber can be removed, but I'm not sure if that is enough. is there not any mounts from other VWs that can swap over? can I lower this, I can go about 11-12cm down on 17s!

I think i may have a way to fix this, but cant get parts before next week.. have anyone done this? moving the bar?
