Reeeaally dont see the point in spending nearly £20k on a front wheel drive hatchback to be brutally honest. Thats pretty much E46 M3/E39 M5 money! Seems so daft to me.

Much rather get a 2nd hand, faster, better looking car for that price, if not for less. Pointless car in my opinion. But if people want to buy them then thats their choice.

3+ year warranty + Vauxhall parts prices...difference between running that and an M3 would be huge.

You can get an E46 M3 for as little as £16k at the moment so it is in fact less that a 'hot hatch' but yeah will cost a lot more to run.

However, id be more then willing to have an M3 rather than an Astra to be honest. No logic behind spending £18k on a 'supermini' in my eyes.

If we being entirely realistic and someone gave me £20k to buy a car I would probably pick the the 197 over a used M3. Can't see the M3 being any more fun on a B-road and there is no way I'd justify the fuel + maintenance costs. Looking at about £1000 to re-tire cars like the RS4/M3...no thanks.

They're fashion that just go out of date, id get a Lancia Delta Integrale, one of my dream cars, £12k on the car, and the rest on insurance and fixing the thing lol.

Evo did an article on the Lancia where they pitched it against the 197 Cup, Corsa VXR 888 and Fiesta ST185...if I remember rightly it got it's ass handed to it.

People might buy hot hatches to pose but many of them have been built with performance in mind...

Around a lap of Cadwell parks Woodland Circuit the results were:

Corsa VXR: 53.3

Clio 197 Cup: 54.1

Fiesta ST185: 55.5

Lancia Delta Integrale: 55.8

So...three of the hardest/best small hatches whooping an icon on a damp track...where you think the 4WD would have helped. Fiesta was the pick of the bunch for handling...it's 16k new but you can get a used ST150 for 7k and have it at the 185 spec. for 10k apparently...game on!

How many Delta's do you see around compared to Fiesta ST's?

I've seen two Delta's locally...never seen an ST185 Fiesta...

Reason for never really seeing Delta's is that the rust into nothingness and they are dated + old. Rarity is not a reason to buy a car.

I'm 18, have always been into cars, even the Max Power craze for a couple years, but have never comtemplated buying one of those new hot hatches over something like a Delta, Quattro etc that I've read books about since i was little.

This is a never ending debate with a simple answer.

If you want the quickest car, go for a Corsa VXR. But if you have your preferences set on a Delta, get a Delta. I'd much rather have one than any of those 3 cars above it. Only a tiiiiny minority of people choose a car because it's 2 seconds quicker round a track than a car of a competitive spec, I know it wouldn't sway me.

What would sway me is the same as tav 3 year warranty and the running costs are minimal.

thats besides the point isnt it. u would rather have 1 of those over a delta or quattro cause its got warranty and cheaper to run? in that case......would u preffer a camper van or caravan then?

2 ends of a scale isnt it really, maximum performance and reliability/running costs shouldn't have anything in common, should be a choice of the 2.
