Hi Jean, welcome to the site. Such a sad loss of your son and nice to keep his polo :-)

If it is the blue one in his photo gallery then its a Mk2 Polo Hatchback or known as a breadvan.

Its www.gonetoosoon.co.uk

hello and welcome to the site, really sorry to hear of your loss, looking though that site is pritty depressing, it's a sad reminder of hoe fragile life is.

as for the car its a mk2. as for restoration, i guess you'll be wanting to keep it how he had left it as much as possible? if so you'd have to try and find out what work it will need (ie. rust repaired, engine work, ect, ect), once you find out what it needs if you ask on here in the tech section we can start to help you sort it

Hi, your polo is deffinately a mk2 sometimes known as a squareback aswell as hatch and breadvan. you can still get most parts for them new, but you are probably better off with second hand parts as they will fit better and be off superior quality. theres always loads of bits for sale in the classifieds and the tech help on here is always pretty good to.

Hi Jean,

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your son. I think it's a lovely thing that you are doing.

I'm sure that if you needed any actual help that there would be many people on here who would be more than willing to come and help you with your task. Whereabouts are you based?

Anyways, good luck with the restoration and please keep us updated :-)

I really commend what you're doing, so many peoples parents say things like how its only a piece of metal and a waste of money etc, so its really nice to hear that your doing this on his behalf. If something happened to me id want someone to do the same for Bluey as i couldn't bear the thought of him being sold on to someone that didnt care or just rusting away :-(

Hi Jean.

Your sons car kinda reminds me of when i 1st passed my test and had a mk2 bready with a spoiler on the roof. Most people would sell the car on as 'just a piece of metal' so you a defiantely a rare breed.

I wish you all the best renovating his car and theres always alot of help physically and technically available on here should you need it.

Jon.

Top Mum

I'm sure enough people on here will help out with info

hi jon

dont see myself as a rare breed, just wanted to honour my son,his car or should i say cars will never be sold on just couldn't see anyone else in them.also have his cavalier sitting in my driveway, everyone keeps telling us to sell it on but let them walk a day in my shoes and then tell me to do that. His cars were his life especially his baby mk2.hope i dont mess it up though.he would be so pi***d if i did.

thanks jean:-)

Really sorry to hear of your loss Jean.

I think its fantastic what your doing and I'm sure youll find all the help and advice you need on here.

Best of luck with it all and just give a shout if you need any help at all.

Rich.

Hi Jean,

Lovely thing you're doing to honour your son. It'd be a nice tribute if you can make it down to the polo show.

Hopefully we can help you to restore your son's pride and joy.

Paul.

You must try and get to the polo show at Whittlebury Hall, near Silverstone.

There'll be a field full of people who'd be happy to help.

really sad story i wish my mum would do the same for me if the worst ever happened!
