I'm considering one of these as my next car and seriously tempted by one i went to view today.

Just wondering if you guys would recommend a GTV and if anyone has ever owned one? (I've posted a similar thread on a Alfa forum incase anyone asks)

If i do end up buying one it would have to be the V6 model, went for a test drive in the one i viewed, everything seems solid. The acceleration is pretty amazing even though its quite a heavy car.

Any thoughts?

Go for a test drive of at least five miles. If it doesnt break down,buy it.

Realise that whilst a five minute job on a VW takes an hour,a five minute job on an Alfa takes two weeks.

Even still. I dont do more than two litres,but if i did,id probably drive a GTV.

Some people say the 2.0T is better because it's lighter and doesn't upset the handling. It won't sound as good as the V6 though

Good things -

Utterly fantastic noise,

great looks,

amazing interior

Bad things -

you WILL NOT fit anything resembling an adult in the rear seats, this for me was the crucial point,

fuel economy, mid 20s even when taking it easy?

So i went for something different, yet similar

I've never had a GTV but had my '99 phase 2 Spider for two years now, most reliable car I ever owned! I've done about 25000 miles in it including driving it around europe, they are great cars when looked after, just make sure it has full history and has the master key.

And the jobs I've done have been easy, did a rear wheel bearing in half an hour, and about the same for the clutch slave cylinder.

^^ You knw the saloons.. erm, mid to late nineties, cant think of the model name..

Nightmare to work on. dont know the exact engine, but the starter motor that i changed was completely unaccessible, even the exhaust is complicated haha.
