Mk2 Golf GL

Featured Replies

So I've recently picked up a pretty tidy 1.8 5 door mk2 GL at a bargain price..

FVWSH and one previous old chap that owned it. just approaching 65.

I spose i'll let the pics do the talking... loads more to come just gotta wait for rain to clear :( some teasers though :p

As it was, standard ride height, paint was looking a lil sorry for it's self (it had been in storage for the past several years)

2750060075_98e818776a_o.jpg

It got a quick bit of TLC (standard wash + SRP applied to each panel at a rapid speed :p)

The cars interior is almost immaculate, couple of very tiny marks in a couple of places, other then that nothing! apart from the dirty 20year old matts :p

So, in my possesion it wasn't going to stay standard for long..

Coilies ordered and arrived from Phill(cheers once again bud)

2750891526_f5ebbb343b_o.jpg

and they were soon fitted...

2750052013_ec291fbab9_o.jpg

and of course I couldn't not fit the G60's as the polo's going soon!

2750053229_7a5f7827cb_o.jpg

Fitted a badgeless grill... and from that pic you can see the front bumper was bent, must have had a little knock as the metal was slightly bent behind..

but very minor and nout to worry over..

2750053941_bc5ab15d1e_o.jpg

So off to the scrappy we went, picked up a new front bumper with support for 20quid, happy days..

New bumper was really faded and had probably been sitting in the scraps for a while, so we just used the rear support and used my old bumper, which is close to mint. also the indicators were used from the old one as the ones on the scrap bumper had also seen better days..

so here is how it sits...

will get some new pics tomorrow as it has had a bit more of a polish and had settled nicely :)

2750056705_bb0c836cc9_o.jpg

we also gave it a service (oil, oil filter, spark plugs, fuel filter)

all it needs is a wheel bearing and its good to go!

more pics will follow tomorrow :) hope you like!

yeah I am bro, i'd imagine in the polo tho mate cant afford the tyres yet.

Awesome! But bleeeer to the debadged grill, i reckon a normal grill with chrome badge to compliment the chrome on

the rest of the car. But thats just me haha

Does it have power steering being a GL?

Yeah see what happens, i've always loved the badgeless on mk2's though so i think it will stay, na i doesn't, although I'm not loosing anything there as the polo doesn't and i prefer it that way!

My old golf 1.3 didnt have PAS and it wasnt bad, just wondered if the 1.8 was a bigger engine

and heavier on steering? Anyway it doesnt matter because it looks pimp.

can't see it making a difference, all gonna depend on loads of diff things, I've got lower profile tyres on the G's so its heavier wit them

Looks sweet 8-)

More door mk2s with small bumpers FTW

I agree with Sal though, standard grille would look better  with all the chrome that come on GLs :-)

Try and find some early GL rub strips too, they have a chrome trim along the top, will look sweet :-D

I've got some on mine 8-)

Can just about see them in this, sort of :? :-)

Yeah i hear you, might change my mind who knows :p

the rub strips looks cool though, not sure how much chrome i wanna introduce though :p

see if any crop up at a decent price/nick and could be a go-er :p

all about the small bumpers! just can't find bloody clear indicators for them, only big bumpers

MK2's FTW check my thread dude,my work is a little more extensive than yours,i wish i'd of got one in as good a condition as yours :(

Yeah I hear you buddy. You have indeed gone in to quite a bit more detail, although saying that, i've only just started..

The fronts are wound all the way down, the only thing left for it are to take the helper springs out, then wind it up from the bottom a little bit. although I'm already pulling the inside of the arch out when on full lock + going over a bump lol. back could go up a lil to compensate for the moment, but i can't see that happening... so we'll see :D:D it is a little nose down, the pictures don't really do that much justice though. Will get some proper ones when it's on the road, no tax atm! waiting for insurance docs to come through, needs a good machine polish, sittin in a dusty garage for 3 years+ didn't really help, although I now have a bigger right arm from spending a day polishing it's flat spots... mainly the roof n bonnet(obviously)

Yeah, i agree the front needs to come down more! I dont think you should raise the back at all!:-p

cheers Tom matey some of the rolling ones came out alright then in the end! only just seen em, not that I'm on here much anymore :p

yeah it's staying close to how it is now, might change a few lil bits, couple of tiny scratches to sort out, other then that its mint so cant complain, one tiny ding in the paint n thats it!

debadged grille looks a mile better than the badged one dude

whole car looks big pimpin! small bumpers suit this down to the ground too.

nice work

That luckily wasn't far off from how it was when I got it, little run around with a decent hover and some all purpose cleaner for the very minor small stains and we're there! :p

This really makes me want a Mk2 Golf.

cheers man i'm loving it, you wouldn't even realise you were in an older golf driving it and from its looks :D big difference from the polo anywho

!

Looking good there sammy, interior is fooking clean! Just need to bring the back down a tiny bit more again i reckon.
