Insurance on a 1.4 16v

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Just new to the forum!....HI! :D

I am driving the now a Colt 1.6 GLX which i have just sold and i am Buying a 1.4 16v (Mk4).

At the moment i am paying £730 a year on insurance with norwich union but the quotes i am getting are just silly for a 16v.

Cheapest i have got is the same as the colt, But was wondering why as this is a Smaller engine etc?

Anyone got information on good companies for insuring the polo?

I am 19, been driving for 2 years, and have 2 years no-claims. No Driving Offences.

Any information will be great.

thanks

because the polo is 16v, it's kicking out quite a lot of power.

Colt 97-2000 =88.5BHP

Polo 16v =100BHP, 25 more than the 1.6 8v polo

plus as it is the "sporty one" insurance companies like to add a bit on for good measure

that's my thoughts anyway

Plus its a VW, more desirable.

Thanks guys,

I managed to get a decent quote so i think i am going to go with that!

Supprised that the gf on it brought the quote down! :S But then again...it is a girl!

Hey buddy, that is amazing. I just tried for myself, and got a quote of £1.234 and mine is a 1L! [6n2 aswell]

I've had a full license for a year, no no claims, but i haven't claimed, or anything like that in my year or driving. Why are they so different? again I'm 18.

a student? and i live in a peaceful little village in Cornwall where the car is kept in a driveway! I cant understand it!

Any help will be appreciated!

I tried too, with Bell, I had to add both my parents to the policy and they wanted just over 1900 quid for cully comp with my paying £1 in excess. Thing was, with Bell, switching to TPF&T, would not allow me to add any excess to the policy, so the quote was even more expensive for me than for full comp (wtf). I mean 1900 isnt bad for fully comp at 18 with 0 years experience and 0 ncb (for myself) but still, If I could add 1k in ecxess and be TPF&T it would easily be around 1k-1100 on a 75bhp 16v 6n2 :x

you have a PM dude, just incase you dont check this thread

...edit...

Basically I'm insured with tesco car insurance

my dads also on the policy too and I'm not using any of his no claims

i cant remember exactly what i put down as the details but for the milage per year i think i put down 4000 or something like that

i think its fully comp too and excess is something like £600 - £750 (couldn't change it on the website or change it at all for that matter that was the only option that i could select for the excess thing)...cant remember exactly

thats what i did ^^ also this might sound weird but i tried different computers for my quotes, because on my own pc i was getting stupid amounts and sometimes it wouldn't go through...but when i went over to my cousins and did the quote there...the quote went through and i also got a realistic amount...guess you could try different computers...

surely his mum/sister or a female from the family must be the policy holder.

Still, when i got mine at 17 i was paying 1200 in my mums name!

now its 850 still in her name no points etc

come my bday in 2 months its gona be approx 1700 in my name

Mines about £850 per year through direct line! It was only £150 a year cheaper then my old corsa 1.5d.. Although I do have my bf on there too... I think my excess is normal.. I'm not sure though as he done it :) x

IMO tesco is the one!...cheapest quotes ever

I meant to say £150 more expensive then the corsa lol.....

Its not that good then if you're paying 750 and have an excess of like 700.

Your basically just paying 1400-odd in 2 parts, if you have to claim.
