jst been pulled, is it legal to revers without a seatbelt cause i was told in my lessons years back it was actualy legal to remove your seatbelt when doing a menuver, i just had a 30quid fine for reversing about a foot i know its only 30quid but end of the day id rather keep it than give it to the police cheers for any help on this

I was never told that I could take my seat belt off whilst driving. On my lessons I was told to have my belt on at all times until the engine was switched off.

forget years back, i was told last year I'm allowed to remove my seatbelt when looking back to reverse! my instructor actually made me do it lol

i even removed mine on the 'reverse around the corner' bit of test and passed :)

well someone got bummed!

id get reporting that shit like tomorrow, id be turning up kicking off, making up laws, utter rubbish

The police do 'try it on',and it pays - if they didnt,we wouldn't need solicitors. I had one trying to say my car was in a dangerous condition. He was just itchy because he couldn't find anything wrong with it in the half hour he tried to,so he shoved the battery across the half inch it moved and booked me for that. I appealed,and i won. Sounds like he's relying on you to bend over.

Passed my test in March and was told by the instructor that I was allowed to remove my seat belt during manoeuvres.

i was told similar several years ago but not heard anything on it recently.. with the increase in car laws in the last two / three years i would think they're just toughening up on it...still gay coppers tho !!! lol

so true! I was informed by someone who used to process fines, that so many people just pay up, they hardly ever bother with the people who dig their heels in about paying guilty or not!

Stop, remove belt, perform manoevre, then have to put belt back on before pulling away? :s

Its not hard, the belt does retract..

its easier if you're straining around to see behind fully etc. Anyway teh point is this guy got wrongfully fined.

If i were him id be straight to the station asking them to take it back...

Depends what the visibility's like out of your vehicle.

I remember studying for my theory a while back now and that was one of the questions and it says you can, only when reversing so unlucky mate.

Either way i'd go down the station and complain.

You should have just said to the officer that when you were learning to drive and passed your test whenever it was, you were informed that you could remove the seatbelt for reversing.

Now that you have taken the fine and the ticket you may have to right a letter to some district court boy if you want to complain. Last time I went to the cop shop to complain about a fine they said they couldn't do anything there I had to write a letter

I can also confirm that it's definitely legal.

I just passed my driving test last week, and my instructor (who is also my cousin) told me that although it's legal to remove your seatbelt when reversing, it's best to keep it on in case you forget to put it back on afterwards and fail your test.

He told me this less than a month ago.
