i had an idea...

Featured Replies

well as I'm sat here looking at wheels, general browsing, i thought wouldnt it be great if there was like a virtual wheel modder...

a bit like the dub moder thing

but shows just the wheel arch, like select your car, for example mk1 golf

then a choice of the wheel, if it isnt listed, you can input the offset, weather there is spacers etc

and it will give you info like, weather your e.t is gunna be daft, how its gunna look, weather its gunna scrape etc

i think it would get alot of use

but i have no idea how to put it into practice lol

lol

I thought about this as well, i can do 3D models/renders but really it needs someone with exstensive flash/scripting knowledge to make it possible :-(

It would take alot of work to get all the dimensions etc correct, like that tyre stretch calculator, but it would be hella cool.. 12x12's dropped 140mm lool.

they have this in america

www.tirerack.com

not 100% set to tuner standards, but it has been done

I dont know much about creating such images, but it sounds top.

You'd have a dimensionally correct 3D canvas, and then the program would place the wheels in the position of the measurements set.

It'd only be a rough guide though,as even PhilJ's photo of a MK2 coupe 40/40 appears to sit higher than mine - also 40/40.

But having a neutral 'virtual' picture would keep the focus on the dimensions.

^ Pretty spot on

It would all be about the scale and the measurements, designing the interface and models would be easy.

I would be up for designing the 3D models but i very much doubt there are any programmers on this site..

Doesn't need to be 3D...could do everything in simple vector style graphics in either 2D or isometric. You'd just need to show front on/side on/isometric. 3D would take a lot of time to put together...you could make some simple vectors of cars in 130mins if you are quick.

This sort of idea...

i was thinking more a generic image like this angle

wheel%20shot.jpg

if anyone can do the mechanical side of it i could sort the graphics side, would be a handy site!

Would be fine if you could get a good picture of each car. Then all you need is the wheel on a separate layer below the arch...controlled by two slider...one for ET and one for width perhaps?

come on lets do it man, lets see if we can make something that actually works!

Thats the angle i was thinking ^

I suggested 3D models with that angle in mind, and the advantage of 3D models over vector is the possibilty to get the wheels/models to look photorealistic

for example:

Depends what theme the whole thing would be going for..

Tav - 3D does take longer but look at the difference..
