6N Roof Channels

Featured Replies

I was thinking about smoothing the roof channels on my 6N. Has anyone done this? Any pics or other info would be great.

very hard job buit possible, a lad called neb on here had his done, he said he couldnt slam the doors as the filler would crack, but anything is possible

if it were to be done theyd need lead filling and welding up.. That much filler/fiberglass would crack in no time at all and just look naff. Theres a dutch mk4 with it done properly and looks really good. Not a job to cut corners on at all.

theres something i heeard about having to fill door gaps too? not sure if that was smoothing channels on mk3's or not but its something to research?

thought about the mk5 roof rail route.............?

thats what I've done but you need a mk5 screen ideally to match the corners of the rails

see I've heard about the mk5s fitted...they're plastic and much more sightly arent they?? what do you mean you have to have a mk5 screen to match the corners tho??

i though about this as the mk4s just look naff, if someone can direct me id be appreciative

Any pics of Mk5 channels fitted?

the mk5 screen goes right tot he corners of the surround whereas a mk4 corner is rounded so you are left with a small triangular shape in the corner, I'm sure you coudl make something for in that hole but a mk5 screen is better. mk5 trims are just flush and dont have the gay bumps the mk4 ones have.

Its a very difficult thing to do and I wouldnt reccommend using filler. Cant slam your door coz it might crack!!!

I'm investigating and will let you know!

the guy that does my body work said that welding could be a possibility.simpley jus welding plates in??suppose it would be better than filler

ETKA lists the Mk5 channels at £52ea either primered or black. Looks like there is some retainers that they clip into aswell.

wait til someone is breaking one then, much cheaper :D

I'm not even sure you could weld it. Its alot to weld meaning alot of heat into the thin metal which might make it distort.

cheers bud.... simple mod on its way :-D

How much are we talking tof it a mk5 windscreen? also is it a hard job or will it just go in?

mk5 glass will be straight swap but you might have fun persuading the glass man to fit it?

in teory its only welding in strips, do it propery and it wont warp then drop in some lead and a bit of filler and away you go :)

tank had his mk4 golf roof welded up!

i didnt realise mk5 strips were so dear! bugger me!

mk5 roof rails n windscreen on a mk4.. ;)
