Ok i have searched and searched this topic and seem to still not have any of the answers i need, so here goes! Basically i've got a pair of bare mk3 front suspension struts, i am going to remove the original spring platform, move the steering/trackrod mount down to correct the geometry/inner wing contact problem, then i am going to weld in place a threaded sleeve so that i can run a custom coilover setup with whatever spring i choose......right, excellent. My main problem now is that the car will not sit any lower than it currently does, it will have height adjustability but only upwards of the current ride height i have. Currently i am down with a reduction of 70mm from spax shortened springs and shocks with lowering top mounts and i have nigh on zero travel, other than the movement in the bump stops, if i made the simple coilover change we have all seen b4 then the situation which will not change because the point at which the spring will sit on its lowest setting will be almost the same as my current setup. The only solution i can see that will get me off the bump stops and get me lower is to shorten the strut all together. The easiest way i can see is to grind the original welds that hold the hub assembly to the strut and move the hub up the strut and re-weld it, all well and good but that sounds like a dodgy game to me! Shortening the actual strut is impossible because then there wouldn't be enough space for the shock insert.

If only the hub and strut were separate components like so many other cars i have worked on!! Can anyone shed some light? has anyone done this mod themselves and got their cars sitting on the floor? The only truly slammed mk3 polos i have seen are all running expensive coilover setups which i cant afford! And i know that being this low may not be the best for handling etc but that is my concern, it all about looks!

when you move the steering arm downwards by say 2" it allows you to weld the threaded tube butted up to it giving more lowering travel.

i think with stock top mounts my old KWs would do about 110mm
