mate of mine went to a scrappers other day...50 mins later walked out with a abd lump for 70 quid

you just need to keep trying, coincidentally the first VW breakers i phoned had one, 50k miles, pulled out a few weeks beforehand, £150 done.

70 is about the right price for just a shortblock and head from most places. ancillaries will put the price to about 150 as you paid pete.

Try this place, http://www.centralmotorssalvage.co.uk/ (CMS). Thats where i got my 1.6 AEE engine from, i paid £100 for mine so I'm guessing a 1.4 bottom end would be a wee bit cheaper!

Derby isn't too far from you and I'm 90% sure he will have an ABD lump in as they hoard all the scrap VW engines in the area, and theres some big scrap yards around.

They are top guys there too really sound.

I've literally just removed mine yesterday,and replaced it with an AEE. I thought id have it done in the same day,but all the messing about with different starter loom,cutting the block to take the engine mount bracket etc took me this morning aswell.

Still,its a shame its just sitting there leaning against the wall.. I dont sell stuff on here,quite religiously - it'll be scrapped.

tbh it was more due to you posting what you posted in your first post that brought this up, just seemed cun,tish to fuck that you were (what seemed like) rubbing it in his face that you were scrapping an engine that this lad was struggling to find and implying that you wouldn't let him have it do to him being on here (correct me if i'm wrong there but thats how it read).

I can see that,seems a bit tactless,but I've scrapped alot i could've sold and stated quite clearly that I'm in a catch-22 situ where i can advise freely if i dont have an agenda. Not saying people who sell are biased,just its been an issue.

Fact is these engines are everywhere around here,and not hard to find,so it doesnt seem such an issue from where I'm standing.

Just knowing i had one such a trek from Sheffield should've nipped it in the bud,it should never have been an issue.

I've heard of people with parts I've been after being miles away,it goes with the turf.
