I feel like going for a drive but don't really know any decent roads around here, can anyone help?

get on the back roads my son. the roads from lincoln to where i am (spalding) aren't too bumpy and plenty of places to overtake the tractors!

the burton road from lincoln to the motorway is a lovely drive

Saw on topgear that the road between lincoln and scunthorpe is the longest straight stretch of road in the u.k? Can't remember which road it is though. A58 or something?

The A15, which is an old Roman Road. The problem is it's also bloody lethal because it is constantly up and down hill, I was close to a very, very near miss on tere a few years ago. Hobhole Bank (aka Seven mile straight) on the other hand.....

Yeah, I love following all those f***ing caravans. Lincoln, Bardney, Horncastle, lil bit of A158, Spilsby, B1196, through to Croft, and in the A52 is the proper way to do Lincoln to Skeg.

It's all about the back roads across the Wolds. From Lincoln, head for Belmont mast (don't park under it and turn your car off because it can drown out your immobilser) then head for Louth. Hit the Bypass, and follow Mablethorpe until you get to the end, then follow Little Cawthorpe, stop at the Royal Oak in Little Cawthorpe, the Stag in Burwell or the Bell in Belchford for some nice foods, then as close to straight line it back to Lincoln as you can (cross the A158 at Baumber and come in through Branston).

Then realise what you're missing and buy a motorbike

the 7 mile straight runs from reevsby to boston (ish!) and goes through carrington and new bollingbroke, hobhole bank runs at the back of old leake midville etc, and its a nasty bit of road too, real bumpy in places with a huuuuge drain next to it!!!

if its a nice road your after then try the caistor high street (b1125) its nice, or lincoln to horncastle via bucknall (my daily comute :-D ) or the a16 from ulceby cross to louth, the bluestone heath road is a good one off that at driby top too....

There's also the 5 mile straight, out towards boston somewhere as well, not sure if it runs parralel to the 7 mile straight or not, but its not far away me thinks.

Back roads ftw though, plenty of good ones around here, some good for 5-10 minute giggles, some for much more

Fair point, Hobhole is 5 mile straight, though most of my mates (wrongly) call it seven mile straight. It's not that bad a bit of road, you just need to know where the smooth-ish line is (cue memories of getting air in a Tesco delivery van when it's done wrong ). Either way, probably not one for the lowerred crew.

I don't need to worry about catching the bottom, cars not lowered at all. I have to do over those triangle speedbumps on the way to my house and park on curbs too much to risk that.

It's reclaimed marsh land, so really flat, and criss-crossed with drainage ditches, which the roads often follow.

I agree with Yeti that the road over the wolds is a bloomin good drive. Lots of straights, curves and hilly sections.

The A607 between Grantham and Melton Mowbray is cracking (IMO) and has the added bonus of leading you out of Lincolnshire.

There is both though, a seven and a five mile straight is there not? or am i imagining things?

Lincoln by pass thats where its at for speed the (A52?), the Skegness run is good, be careful around Horncastle, seems to be an accident hot spot...

Just the road from bourne to colsterworth is fun enough - just not in the rain!

The A52 from boston to skeg was never a good road to start with! I've only had 1 time where i managed a 45min run from my house to the clock tower!!!

By pass is the A46, it's not that fast round lincoln.

Revesby to Horncastle is a cracking road, not the best surface but uber-twisty.

Since when is a dead straight road a good driving road?!

If you can get a clear run then the A52 from Skeg to Boston is a good run, but you get stuck behind so much stuff that it can be a bit of a nightmare! I'd def say that Revesby to Horncastle is your best bet.

Google Maps - Its the B1183 you want through Scrivelsby and Moorby. Keep an eye out for Ostriches!

Oh, and Bourne to Sleafords good too, on the A15.
