Hi everyone

I have this big problem with my polo 1997 1.4

I just had it serviced had all the cam belt kit fitted new, new water pump...etc.

But i have this problem with my car witch i had from the start when i have bought it, when i start the engine it goes up the revs as it supposed to but then it rappidley drops down till it nearley cuts out and than it goes buck up again to normal like yo-yo, and this also happens when i put the clutch in when I'm driving, and also when I'm just about to stop i go down in gears and i slow down and i put the clutch in and it does the yo-yo moution on my rev meater it eather cutts out or just goes back up, but the thing is when I'm moving and it cuts out when i have the clutch in i can still let the clutch out and it starts again just like bump starting it, the guy i was servicing the car with said that he dosent know what the problem could be the car drives fine it is just that little problem that is realley annoing me i hope somane could help or give me some sort of advice in that case.

Hi tahnks for your reply but in their it explaines when the revs go up by it self it dosent happen in my case in my case the revs go down without using the throtle at all just putting the clutch in and this link explaines about cleaning the housing but i think my housing is slean because the throttle is very responsive and it works fine and it goes down the reves when i put the clutch in at low revs and also at high reves when I'm about to stop thanks.

I've had the same thing with my car, cleaned the throttle housing out, was fine after it.

About a year later, usually when it's cold, same thing.

Cleaned it out again, been fine ever since.

When did you last have the throttle housing cleaned out? Have you actually seen it? Don't take long for them to get clogged up.

Trust me on this, before you dismiss it and waste hundreds on new parts you don't even need.

Hi mate you was right i did clean what you said and it doesnt cut out but now the revs jump up and down up and down like i have heavy foot what shall i do next?

Although the first time I reset mine on a VW 5051 diagnostic computer, the revs were all over the place for a few moments, after one big rev they fell back down to normal and have been fine ever since.

Some people say that disconnecting the car battery for a few hours (or overnight) is enough to reset the throttle values, but I've never tried this way. And it's mentioned on the other thread that this doesn't always work.

Ok so i have disconnected the battery overnight and will see what hapens but i would also like to know how do i reset the throttle values do i buy a kit of ebay and do it myself or shouls i go to vw dealership and get it don? do you have any idea how much would it be?

oh yea and also do you know where i could find info about where my port is located for the diagnostic plug? it is a polo 1.4 1997 thanks

Under the steering column there's a little glovebox thing, open it, and there are also some clips on each side which you squeeze open to allow the lid to fold right open, if you look in there you should see a purple coloured socket. VW dealer would be able to do it but they might charge you, my advice would be not to go into the reception but speak to one of the technicians in person, perhaps on a Saturday morning, and I'm sure they'd happily reset it for some beer money, only takes a minute :-D

i had the same problem get the vehicle CODE READ nomaly O2 sensor will be a fault which cuts power to the injector

Hi guys it is all sorted now like you said to clean the throttle housing out and it did the job but the revs were idiling.So i went to VW dealer yestarday they said it would be £40 to do it i also went around few garages around my area i also went places that do tyres to ask if they know anyone who will do it for me but one guy said to me that he used to work for VW and the revs will settle down after 50 miles so i did about 30 miles yestarday and disconected the battery overnight, woke up this mornin connected the battery up did about 15 miles and my revs are perfect it dosent cut out it is just great!!!

Guys thanks for your help its just great hire on club polo becuse you know so much about thease cars it is just so much easier to do things on your own anyway thanks again.
