Hi everyone

I have this big problem with my polo 1997 1.4

I just had it serviced had all the cam belt kit fitted new, new water pump...etc.

But i have this problem with my car witch i had from the start when i have bought it, when i start the engine it goes up the revs as it supposed to but then it rappidley drops down till it nearley cuts out and than it goes buck up again to normal like yo-yo, and this also happens when i put the clutch in when I'm driving, and also when I'm just about to stop i go down in gears and i slow down and i put the clutch in and it does the yo-yo moution on my rev meater it eather cutts out or just goes back up, but the thing is when I'm moving and it cuts out when i have the clutch in i can still let the clutch out and it starts again just like bump starting it, the guy i was servicing the car with said that he dosent know what the problem could be the car drives fine it is just that little problem that is realley annoing me i hope somane could help or give me some sort of advice in that case.

Hello Jakub,

Firstly, try a throttle body washout with carb cleaner paying attention to the vacuum pipes - also check for splits and leaks. After the TB clean - you'll need it reset to 'Basic Settings mode' using VAGCOM or a hand held reader.

^^^what he said, although it is possible to clean it without reseting the throttle body if you are carefull.

how i used to do it was to get some carb cleaner, spray it in and wipe clean without touching the throttle butterfly

then i would start the car, get a friend to rev the engine on part throttle and spray more carb cleaner in, directing it in the direction of the bits that still looked dirty. never had to reset it and never had any problems with it.

it maybe doesnt work as well as fully dismantling the throttle body, and may require doing every year but it saved me having to reset it.
