Brake switch ??

Featured Replies

hi all, I've recently bought a 2001 1.4 polo, with the ECU light on.

The guy i bought it off tells me he had the codes read & its lit, down to a 'brake switch' which doesnt really do anything

my 1st question is, is this actually a part on the polo, or is this rubbish ? - i wondered if it was something similar to a part that senses when the brake pads are getting low ???

any help would be great

cheers

Hello and welcome to CP.

Right, if the brake light switch is faulty it may cause the light to flash up. However, it is very easy to check - your brake lights will be on all of the time or less commonly will not work. Get some to stand at the back of the car and check the brake lights! However, a lot of other things can also cause the EPC light to flash up too.

The acutal switch is located just underneath the brake pedal. Once the switch has been replaced, you need the fault code cleared.

Look here for an example of what I mean - it is almost identical.

If you've just aquired the car and the above does not solve it, perhaps a trip to an idependent dealer may help to read the fault codes.

Kind regards,

PoloD.

hmmm, i was told that the brake lights work, but i will check : )

cheers for the advice bud, ill see how i get on : )

well, i took a look ~& brake lights are working as they should.

Everything else is working ok, so cant really see what the problem is

I'm keeping a lookout for an independent ECU reading place, to try and get the fault code erased - would this mean that the light will go out ?
