My Evo VII RS

Featured Replies

A few of you may remember that i had a Silver Evo VI GSR but this started to attract some unwanted attention from local scumbags, click here for video evidence, so i decided to move onwards and upwards but for something a bit less chav looking. So i purchased a Evo VII RS, now for those that don't know the RS is the hardcore version with the main differences being:

  • no ABS

no Air Con

no leccy windows

no leccy mirrors

shit brakes

shit seats

no central locking

no AYC

no ACD

stronger drive train

closer gearbox (3rd & 4th)

and they only come in white

All of that adds up to a weight saving of 80Kg compared to a standard VII GSR ;)

I aquired the car back in Feb and it was totally standard apart from a HKS EVC 5 boost controller, aftermarket steering wheel and cusco twin plate clutch. So far i've had added a few things

  • Bonnet vent, bumper vent, door handles, wing mirrors, headlights, spoiler blade & end caps painted gloss black

Cobra Suzuka seats

Buddy Club low rider seat rails

Schroth harnesses

Harness bar

Buddy Club Pro Spec exhaust system (modified to 3" from the cat back)

3" Decat

3" Downpipe

Blitz Sus air filter

Alcon 343mm 6 pot front brakes

Alcon 330mm 4 pot rear brakes

Goodridge braided lines front & rear

Carbotech XP8 pads

Motul RBF 600 Fluid

Thats it for now but i've a set of Tein Monoflex coilovers along with EDFC controller being fitted at the end of the month to eliminate some of the arch gap. Power wise i'm only running 1 bar of boost but once the suspension is on and the geometry is set up it'll be remaped using ECUflash to hopefully push 1.6 bar along with water injection (watch this space!)

Enough waffle, time for pics starting with the old:

Thanks guys, will be doing more track days in it next year Tav, i'm out of cash now and need more mods to be able to push it harder.

seen this about i think.I'm in harlow.i think i saw the silver one about in epping before too

The white one looks mean as, really like the mirrors and the smoothed tailgate. Does it attract less attention from scumbags than the silver one did though?

awesome car!

my mate had his brothers fq 400 the other week i took some pictures of it as he was selling!

absolutely awesome bit of kit! 8-)

More than likely, i like back road blasting between Roydon and Epping :-D

So far so good, no hassle with it yet and it doesn't attract nowhere near as many glances as the VI did when out and about, parked up etc.

I so want one of those.

Don't think I'd get insured one at 17 ;)

I swear that last pic's at the place where they film Fifth Gear?!

Anyway, hot car mate.

The last pic is at Ace Cafe, West London on the A406 North Circular. The two pics before that were taken at Milbrook testing ground on a driver training day. Think they have filmed 5th gear at both sites now?

No adjustable diffs on the RS models so no (g)AYC to worry about. It was running just shy of 200bhp when i first got it but after the last round of mods power was up to 414bhp :-)

Little update:

Things have slightly changed now. The car has a rollcage fitted, no carpets, roof lining etc. Tein Monoflex coilovers with EDFC controller fitted. Had a few SPA dual guages fitted. New ECU (Motec M800), boost controller, AMS Upper & Lower I/C Pipes, AMS Small Battery Kit, AMS I/C, HKS 272 cams, Evo IX 80 Series Turbo and a big K&N filter. After remapping power was up to 414bhp (330bhp ATW).

This all lasted for about 3 weeks until i went to RAF Marham for a 30-130 day. After a few repeated runs late in the afternoon, doing an indicated 140mph the contents of the sump decided to jettison via the dipstick all over the engine bay and over the windscreen. After a stripdown it was clear that the ring lands had failed on #1 piston, there was no det on the head or on the piston so the only conclusion was that the heat had killed the std piston.

Sweet! Love these Evo's. I drove a tuned FQ320 which was pushing 400bhp, that was bloody quick, 600 bhp will be mental!
