Anyone ever done a HG on a ford KA?

Featured Replies

Don't know if anyone on here can help with this, i realise its a little odd and i've already posted on some Ka forums.

A friends Ka has blown the HG so il be changing it with MrP i think. I need to know loads of stuff, like can the headbolts be re-used, the torque settings, what needs to be replaced while the head is off, etc etc etc. If anyone has ever done this, could they share any tips/advice?

Or does anyone know where i can get a free pdf of the haynes for this car? That would be ace! ALso, is there a GSF style place for fords, or is it a trip to the main dealer?

Its an iron head,so a few differences. No skimming needed but you'll want to make sure the surfaces are clean. First stage for the bolts is 30 Newtons. Then, again in order,90 degree turn. Then, again in order,a further 90 degree turn.

You can use the bolts a second time only, but id use new.

No cambelt.

And eurocarparts cater for it.

GSF do Fordy bits now as well by the way

This is why people are so wrong to give you grief. Exactly what i needed to hear, thank you good sir.

I think i will use new bolts to be sure.

When I said find info on it, I meant look on ford forums or something. You are the laziest bastard I know. You sit on your arse all fucking day and your that lazy you try to find Ka info on a Polo forum.

LOL. now now girls

If you can do a Polo one, you can do a Ka one. The engine is a 1.3 8V crossflow (sound familiar?). If you can't get a Haynes for a Ka, the engine is also found in slightly differing ford in the Escort and Fiesta. The injection system aside, it dates back to year dot, so any old Haynes covering the crossflow will tell you the basics of what you need to know.

it depends what age ka it is the newer ones are the zetec units the old ones are endura, both are 1300

It's a 97 Me thinks..

Whats the difference with the two?

I'm pretty sure the Zetec was never fitted in the Ka (Fiesta yes), I was driving an 08 reg one earlier this year and it was still a 1.3. It wears a Duratec badge, but it's still the same old crossflow, just with different injection. A 1997 will be the Endura incarnation of the same engine.

yep, duratec 1.3 SOHC setup. there is different ones though!

Its not a sohc, the cam's in the block. So there is no cam drive or distributor to contend with when changing the gasket. Keep pushrods in the correct order, though. You shouldn't need to adjust the rockers afterwards, best check them with a feeler gauge though.

The Zetec was only fitted,in 1.6 form,in the Street/Sport Ka's.
