Hi guys,

been fishing around on the net, some guys on random retro forums are claiming they know of people that do wheels for 30quid a corner!

Yet wide-wheels.net are charging 280quid for the 4!

Why the massive difference? I dont realy care about the legality side of i, i just want some done! And a proper job at that!

Any body know of anybody or up for the challenge?

You pay for what you get mate, by all means find a random Larry to do it for you in his shed but running them on your car. Is it really worth what could be your life?

Wide-wheels are very reputable and are all TUV approved with certificates, this means you can rest assure with safety and if the police stop you there shouldn't be an issue.

Its down to you to make a decision

i know a place that will do you a set of 13's for E360...they provide steels and they are machine welded too!

wide-wheels will cost you more than £280...

it will cost you £60 for pastage from wide wheels as well

i looked into it

and when you get them back there jus in primer so you will have to get em sprayed as well so thats another £200 on top

Nooo you dont get them back in a week. I waited a few months for mine. But in the end got a good result. Since they're the only place in the UK that does them properly then id definately recommend them.

The ones from Europe (Belgium i think) are well ghetto, saw a set at Kris's unit when they first started and jeeeez, doesnt bear thinking about, super shoddy!

Think about it though, £300 quid for some unique (ish) wheels that are stronger and last longer than most alloys, or £500+ for some half decent new alloy wheels?

they are machine welded and the weld (the important bit) is a very neat, uniform "v" shape, much better than wide-wheels and they've been doing it years.

yes, they dont look fab when shipped, but once sandblasted, painted & sealed they look sick :

i'v heard more horror stories from wide-wheels customers than WBS ones...

Erm, what constitutes doing them properly?

I recommend a search. I have written about this subject on here 5 or 6 times.

I paid £140 for mine to be done, ran them for 6 months, none of them leaked and they all balanced up beautifully. Oh yeh, and I had them back in 4 days.

I would be more worried about how straight the wheel is than the quality of the weld (upto a point obviously...). 4 inch long runs of full penetration each side of the band would be plenty to hold the wheel together in all but the hardest of knocks. Anything more than that is extra. However if the band is not centralised on the wheel, or is egg shaped then obviously it won't balance up properly and will cause a lot of stress on wheel bearings and other parts of the suspension.

If you don't know what you're looking for in a wheel/weld then by all means use Wide-Wheels for that peace of mind. Don't underestimate a 'proper' engineers work though which is likely to be cheaper, quicker and just as good quality wise as long as you know what you're looking at.

the wheels can be back in a week if you dont want them smoothing, shot blasting etc . . .

the engineer is getting quicker at doing them but they are still spot on.

can i just say the certificate that you get from widewheels, is a shitty peice of a4 paper that has just been photocopyed. the date of production on mine is like 6months out. and it doesnt say anywhere on them about being TUV approved.

but I've had no problems with the wheels.

to be fair he spent an absolute age finding an appropriate engineer who would do a good job and he was explaining all that goes into making them

several jigs are used for each stage of the banding process and precision welding so trust them, grow some balls and roll them or shut up!
