Congratulations on that mate, I always wanted to go to Coventry studying Automotive Design, but then I went to look around and was upset by the arrogance of one of the members of staff and it put me right off going, so I went to University of Huddersfield to do Transport Design.

I don't know what the real truth is but we get told all the time that at Coventry, you don't even draw a car untill your second year and to be fair a first year from Coventry doing Automotive design at Coventry University, joined our class after a month as she said she hated it there.

However mate I'm sure Uncle Terry will tell you the real truth (y)

Good luck on the course all the same!

And post up your work! I posted up some 3d work a while ago and got a great response.

Thanks for all the love still. Much appreciated.

Yeah man congratulations on getting a place at the best auto design course in the world ;)

Not to put down what Hudds do, as I've never been there and not really seen much work, but it does seem that even after some bad publicity on the cov course, its very recognised by people. A lot of people still say wow when you say youre doing auto design at cov. But I'm pretty sure the courses cover very similar things at all unis.

I'm not going to go into all of the ins and outs of it on the course, but the first two years can put you off a bit. I've just finished my third year (yesterday!) and that was the best year by far. Pretty much what i expected it to be from the start. Very involved and lots of work collaborating with real world designers and international competitions (ie. just submitted to the Interior Motives Design Awards). It really feels like becoming intune and prepared for working in industry.

Theres quite a lot of us auto designers at the VW meets at the ricoh. Always welcome to come down of course! Come and say hello. I'll be in my final year next year though so not sure how often ill get down there, but hopefully you'll see me around lol.

I was in Quadrant Halls in first and second year. I'm a lazy bastid and decided to stay there an extra year :p Its very similar to priory, the biggest halls in the centre. Catered five days a week breakfast and dinner, further out of town than priory, yet only about 10mins walk and its a few quid cheaper. Not bad if you want halls life. No parking there though. You will have trouble finding anywhere with parking in cov. The city centre is quite small so everything is very short walking distance and people dont think you need a car. Theres other halls such as singer which arent catered which have parking, but its expensive. I'm in a house this year which i was very lucky with as it has off road parking. Its difficult to find a house until youve been there a while though and know your way around.

And the course, as said already, if you stick with it past the first year, its very enjoyable and rewarding.

Id also recommend getting your work on some proffesional portfolio sites. Coroflot is brilliant, like an industry based version of deviantart i guess.

I've got work at http://www.coroflot.com/michaelgillett

As for 3D models, I've recently started a 3D Polo Engine.

Full stuff is on polo3, cba to start another WIP thread here on it, will post up when its finished.

Well i failed Graphic Design GCSE and still got in lol.

Theres no difference between the MDes and BAhons as far as your concerned. Its the same course, everyone does BA Auto/Transport until the final year when you choose which you want to finish with basically.

Yeah Singers alright, been to some decent parties there. Parking is stupidly expensive though. You looked round it?

Finished this yesterday:

Love the reflections on it. Despite many peoples preconceptions of the car, i think it is a real elegant piece of design.

My last one for a while probs, as I'm going home sumtime this weekend :D

Cya!

Phat as always Tezza!
