shouldnt be to hard, the mounts are the same i think, as there the same mounts as a g40.

you would then need to check the radiator outlets for the hoses on your golf rad are on the correct side

then it would just be the wiring and exhaust

also double check the fuel system is up to the job, ie pump/lifter

i have the full polo gt that I'm guna cut the engine and everything out ofapart from the rad as iv got one out of a mk2 golf gti all fittings are exactly the same av bin told from sumone one the mk1 golf owners site u need to make a new engine mount for that drivers side

Shouldn't have to on a 1.1 as it's a short block.

Think you'll need GTI fuel lines

You need a fabricated mount for the 5 speed, the other 2 are the mk1 parts. You need a high pressure fuel pump, which could be the GT one, but the mk1 GTi has it's own and the mounts are there for it. I have a GTi tank too. The wiring is easy, 6 wires and the battery connections. I have a GTi exhaust with a length of pipe bridging the gap between the modified GT downpipe, the cat has to be removed, and the system. Do a search both on here and on the mk1 owners club. If you use my username and the word 'conversion', you should find plenty of info and some pictures of the different mounts.

The mk2 rad is of no use at all as the big block has it's pipe at the other side of the car. I used the Polo rad with the mk1 fan, cowl and switch so the wiring was standard. There's already a mount on the passenger side strut tower for an expansion tank. I used one from a mk2 as it's almost the same as the mk1 GTi.

mate put his GT lump in a mk1 ina day

its possible

what did he do about the engine mount need i dont think it will take me a day with how mangled the polo is might be using ma still saw to get it out yet lol cant wait to cut the peice of shit polo up

As you're not a million miles from me, feel free to have a closer look at mine.

our Matt has converted his mk1 1.3 to multipoint fuel injection using parts from a NZ engined Polo..........i'll be fitting a 1.4 ABD/GT to my gold mk1 Driver over winter

-----

bit's you'll need are........3 good choices are

a engine bay loom & ECU from a GT......this needs to be cut back to the basics needed for the ECU to run the engine (i'm fitting a complete loom from a mk3 Polo to mine)

in-tank liftpump from any mk3 Polo......fits straight in (float arm may need bending a bit)

main inline pump from a Polo GT....with the filter, accumulator & mounting bracket from any mk3, our Matt fitted this under the drivers rear boot floor, rather than the GTI position

large bore GTI ridgid fuel lines from CrazyQuiff (or make your own from copper)

de-cat mk3 Polo downpipe.........then mate that to a GTI exhaust system using a flexi joint

radiator from a mk2 Polo (1.1/1.3 mk1 Golf has top fill & mk3 radiator won't easily fit)

metal radiator shroud from a mk1 Golf 1.1/1.3 or mk2 Polo fitted with GT fan/motor

------

to fit a 5 speed box into a mk1 1.1/1.3 you need to fabricate a gearbox mount....gearbox end Polo mk3, chassis leg end from a 1.5/1.6/1.8 or GTI......piece of plate in between the 2

------

there's a bit of messing about with coolant hoses, mainly the pipes to the heater matrix.......a Polo has a bleed screw on the heater matrix, a Golf does'nt.....so you need to slacken off the top pipe to the heater matrix to get the air out

if you fit a NZ/GT or G40 the airbox won't fit between the inner wing & cambelt cover.......cone filter solves this easily

.........

my conversion is slightly different from my brothers

i'm fitting a 1.4 from a mk3 Golf with fuel injection from a Polo GT into my gold Driver

loom & fusebox are from a Polo GT, dash loom is from a mk2 Polo & the rear light loom from a mk1 Golf

also going to mod the innerwing so i can fit the airbox from a Polo GT

nice might have to take you up on that offer mate. will the engine loon and ecu loom fit to the golf fuse box or will it need modifieing? and can i use then gear box mount off of a mk1 gti as it looks the right length for the gt 5 speed tryin not to make my own as i would like the car to look completley standard under the bonet?

cheers gaz

There's only one wire coming from the fuse box and that is a switched live to power up the Polo system. There's not a standard mount that comes close to fitting the 5 speed, but it's not that easy to see anyway. I'm sure something OEM looking could be fabricated.

:D
