2009 Car Tax Legislation!

Featured Replies

Anyone heard about the new tax laws coming in next year??

Its a bit mad!!

I've heard rumours.

If your car is before 2003 it falls in to 2 price brackets??

If your car is after 2003 it goes of C02 emmisions and can be 400+

WTF is that all about!!?

Anyone shed some light????

Luke

I've heard a BMW 335D ALPINA is cheaper to Tax than a 1.6 Golf Match!!! Apparently the golf pushes out more C02 becuase its a petrol!

messed up if u ask me!

browsing through e-bay ads, it appears it's end of feb 01 cut off and people are definately jumping on the 'low tax registered before feb 01' bandwagon and i think will push up the value of pre 01 models...

2000 low tax or 2001 higher tax band? i know what i'd choose!

2000 polo anyone? lol!

this is the funny one.

A Fararri 350 is cheaper to tax than a Cheverolet Kelos!!!! MINT! lol

then again i have a 1996 GLX Mk4 1.6 and I'm gonna be payin £40 more tax! from £160 to £200. I think most Polos will fit in this pre 2001 tax band????

another way to look at is 2000 Polo 1.4 TD is £120 to tax?

2001 Polo 1.4 TD is £35!!

but yeah, my dad just got a Y reg 2.7D, it cost him £200 to tax but would be £400+ if it was few months newer :D

Madfaz your dad could have bought a 06 2.7D and it only cost £210 as long as it was registered before the 23rd march 06

You lot are seriously late. Its been like this for 2 years.

Cars with emmisions over 225 and registered after 23/3/2006 are £400 a year

Anything older then this but younger then 1/3/2001 with emmisions over 185 are £210

Anything 1/3/2001 or older is split into 2 groups not sure on costs tho as I dont deal with cars this old.

£66, and staying at that :D

My next car will probably be older than this.

iirc the tax bands are changing again, as my t4 van tax will be going up from £210 to £400ish! :x

yeah, pretty much post 2001 an your screwed.

That's why I bought an x reg gti!

1991. phew, i'm safe!

My car is on a Y and just after the cut off. The irony is currently the GTI's ARC engines have to pay more tax due to slightly more emissions whereas the AVY's are a little cheaper. The new plan will make the majority of ARC engines cheaper than AVY's!
