probably true for a lot what people band around as rats (rusty bonnet, checkered roof and a roof rack ) but some of theses cars have some real money put in to them, plus massive amounts of time effort and some thing that a lot of show cars don't these days, thought.

tbh i don't like any astra over a mk2 (model wise) but that is awesome that 'ICE' install is cool as fuck

those ones from the 50s though were rusty old shells with big arse engines though, so that redeems them. i yet to see a modern shell ratted and fitted with some real punch. feel free to proove me wrong though

For me the concept of 50s rat rods was that the powerplant was the over-riding factor not the bodywork, hence why it was left tatty. modern rats are the complete opposite from what I've seen, all about gash bodywork and even more gash engines

yeah thats true to a certain extent, mostly in the water cooled rat look cars, but if you look at the air cooled scene were the rat look is more prolific then you will see that the general rules are more closely abided by, with fully refurbished chassis, mint running gear/engines and fucked up shells (no all but more than in the water scene).

i agree, rat look isnt for the remotely new-skool. It can only be pulled off in the air cooled scene, and the whole idea is that it if you look carefully, you have a mint, pristine vehicle.

i like the install thinks its cool, but i always thought rat was when it was shabby looking on the outside , but shit hot engine and real clean engine bay !!

I got that fast car mag n have say when first got into the dub scene i didnt like the hole rat look, but i have grown to like it a lil bit!! i see it as just having fun doing your car to be sumin of your own! (on water cooled) i mean i going rat up my bready abit when i start working on my coupe cos i dont wanna drive a standered boring car so i just gonna put my mark on it! (but how ever i do admit that the asrat looks shit apart from the rims :biggrin:)

yeah thats true it don't really work on more modern cars, but tbh the more modern one's ain't really done to the usual rat rules (most are pritty straight and solid, just painted shit and with a rusty bonnet, roof rack and black and white checks all over them), its more like a lame interpretation of the rat look, although saying that some of them (like the astra) have some really nice touches to them and you can tell that who ever built it really put some thought into what he was doing rather than just copying every one else.
