a very wise comment but the standard of them have gone up a tad nothing like a vw or and vag is built like tho

people who rat a car themselves need shot.

it should get that way by itself, thats the only way it looks natural.

The asrat was built for fun and to get a reaction from people and is probably the most photographed/talked about car of the year so whether you love it or hate it you wont forget it ! Personally i think it's f***ing great !

shame I can't stand rat look!! its a fad that i hope will die quicker than the fad of sticking 3 spoke tsw's on your car like so many people did in the 80s/early 90s.

well rats have been around since the end of the 2nd world war so i wouldn't hold my breath if i was you mate

those ones from the 50s though were rusty old shells with big arse engines though, so that redeems them. i yet to see a modern shell ratted and fitted with some real punch. feel free to proove me wrong though...

What's modern, about as old as this astra? There was a Caddy doing the rounds this year getting some good 1/4 mile times at springfest at least, complete with truckman top and air-ride...

it may not be modern compared to an 08 plate focus, but compared to the sort of cars that pull the rat look off well and without much work its very modern, theres nothing retro about a mk3 astra estate

as for ratty caddy, this one is by far the coolest i've seen imo, plus its got some poke to back it up

I agree with what over people have said, stuff like rat rods in the 'states and the air cooled stuff, they are wicked, some watercooled ones can look good, as its just for fun,but when you see Fastcar mag in the shop with all this 'RAT' EURO' bollocks all over it... :(

totally agree rat rods are from the 1930s its part of the hot rod scene old 32 ford coupes with blown V8s rumbling under the hood a astra with a little bit of rust is a pisstake compared to real rat rods and the reason rat rods are rusty is because in america there is a place called the bonnville salt flats and they blast there cars trying to push the 200 mph barrier but its a salty area and makes the metal rust I'm guessing thats were the whole rusted bonnet came from but it is utter bollox to be honest not really the same

i have a 1984 mk2 golf....first one made apparently, its an A reg so i reckon i can pull the rat look off tbh..

although I'm not calling it a rat because it's not intentional,i rubbed all the paintwork down in hope i was getting a respray but now dont have the funds so the rust has taken over on the bits i rubbed through to metal,its decked on white 14" baby G60 steelies and is having a 1.3 on bike carbs with a bigger cam in,should be quite nippy....

some people call it rat but its the way i want it,not to call it a rat car......

kerrly - i was going to have a paint job but now i cant afford it,i really like the way the car had turned out so no i probably wouldnt have a resray if i could afford it.......i dont know why i was gunna waste my monies on a paintjob tbh,i hate cleaning and polishing cars :p
