Simmo's Mk1 Mars Red 1978 LS

Featured Replies

Model: Mk1 polo LS

Engine: 1100 HB

Suspension: Standard

Brakes: Standard

Wheels and Tyres: Mk3 Gt steels 165/65/13

Exterior Styling: Standard

Interior Styling: Standard/Wolfsberg Steering Wheel

ICE and Security: No ICE, Yes Security

Comments: I had bought the car, after it had been stored for 7 years, from a

family selling it on behalf of their Mother who had been placed in a home.

Totally standard with 36000 miles on the clock and fully ziebarted from new (rust/water protection)

a good service/clean etc put it swiftly back on the road.

Now with 38500 miles, she runs like a dream.

Future mods? a slight lowering, period alloys and stainless exhaust.

That's a lovely example Simmo. It really has cleaned up a treat, is the paintwork original?

Will you be sorting out the rear arch and front valance? It'd be superb if you did.

I like the sound of your future plans for the car too. Sensible lowering so it's still practical and drives nicely too would be very nice as would period alloys. Any idea which wheels you'd go for?

Keep us posted,

Cheers,

Richard.

absolutely mint

whoa wait till you try to match that paint!

DUDE!!!!!! This is the car I'm constantly looking at in December's issue of 'Practical Classics'! I've been buying the magazine for years and couldn't believe it when I opened the cover and saw this car inside. Made my week. What can I say? Inspiring.

Nice one. Hope to see you at the Polo Show...

Well, to say I'm over the moon is a complete understatement, I've finished putting on the suspension and wheels and now I feel the polo is "mine" B)

To anyone wanting to lower their polo a 60/40 drop is spot on, I was surprised how low it ended up, just right IMO... ;)

60/40 drop, with VWI calipers Brembo discs and Pagid pads with the old homemade braided brake lines... (the wheels cleared without any spacers with the VWI Kit) the rims are Wolfrace Turbo's 6x13 ET 15 (I think) with 165-55-13's... ;)
