is it ok to run an engine without a cambelt cover?

i'v seen pics of cars without them, its a 1.4 8v mk4

its just I'm having a new engine fitted and my old cambelt cover melted

yer you should be able to mate. i tuck all mine off becaus it looked a mess with just half of them. passed mot to to but it was a mates garage. lol

I now run without one as it snapped when doing the head gasket

Just be careful of any rogue material flying up in there.

You'll be extremely unlucky for anything to go wrong, I ran without one on my Golf Gti for a year without any issues, go for it.

I've been running mine like it for over a year, the belt seems to deteriorate faster though - but i swap it regularly
