Hi,

What bits do I need off a Polo mk5 GTi rear axle to do a 6n 8v rear brake disc conversion?

Also do I need a new handbrake cable from another VW model or the GTi?

stub axles, hubs, discs, calipers, carriers, flexi brake hose and handbrake cables.

or you can keep your original rear axle and fit parts from a 90-spec onwards Mk2 golf GTi 16v with rear discs. only difference between the cars is the rear disc size i'm sure there are 2 sizes - 226mm and 230mm????? Just need to remember to use mk2 golf hand brake cable - plus mk2 golf stuff is easier to find and cheaper!

I've managed to get a whole rear axle off a Mk5 Gti, discs and pads are worn so I'll need to get a new set.

Will the ABS still work as I have it on my 6n?

Also I have Goodridge braided hoses fitted, are the brake hoses the same fitment between the 6n and 6n2?

What handbrake cable will I need a 6n2 GTi or something else?

6n2 gti cables will fit fine, also the braided lines will fit fine.

unfortunately the complete axle won't fit the 6n, be careful when undoing the stub axle bolts as they are prone to shearing off!

depending on year your abs sensors on the 6n2 beam should plug into the 6n sockets under the rear seats.

Think i'm gonna do this conversion too. Just bought a Mk4 6n as a runaround but knowing what i'm like, its not gonna be long before I start tinkering

Can somebody please give me a list of parts I need to do this conversion successfully.

Also, Has anybody done a bigger brake conversion on the front ?

Also, had anybody ever fitter power steering to a Mk4 6n ?

bike brake kits - theres a few options, loads of people do g40 conversion on the front which gives you 280mm rotors, but brembo do a big brake conversion kits for the 6n last time i checked and if you have enough space they do a big brake conversion for the g40 so you could go massive

Can somebody give me an itemised shopping list for what I need to do a rear disc brake conversion using either;

a) mk5 polo gti parts

or

b) mk2 golf 16v parts

Also, would like a bigger brake conversion on the front..... G60 perhaps, What have others done, and what parts were required.

Would like to do this myself for once so I can learn a thing or do rather that just takin it to somebody to do for me....

I managed to source the rear brake from a seat ibiza 16v which came with rear brakes instead of rear drums and shoes as on the 6n polo.

The difference in the standard beam and the ibiza beam was the bar going along the inside of the beam, which i presume is an antiroll bar or something, who knows, all i know is that the standard beam doesn't have it.

The complete rear beam from an ibiza will fit directly onto an 8v polo, i've done it myself, well in the process of doing it, waiting for some powerflex bushes to arrive!

Parts you will need if you choose the ibiza option.... beam (not necessary), discs, pads, calipers, backplate, brake hose (can bend the old one into shape just about, not advisable though, lol), and the handbrake cable.

This is slightly harder to source, but all parts fit directly in, no worries about the abs stuff as the spring thing attached to the beam and hence to the rear brakes (just before the exhaust back box) is also on the ibiza beam.

work is easy to do, providing you have some knowledge and common sense!

yeah what is the difference, i worked in a vw garage and, although not done a swap (going to on my car), I've been underneath both cars and cant see any difference?

Basically, The setup I have is;

Corrado G60 Front Calipers/Carriers

Corrado G60 Rear Calipers/Carriers, Hubs & Stub Axles

Corrado Brake Master Cylinder and Servo

Just need the Cable, Discs & Pads now.

Any Idea's ?

What Handbrake Cable do I need ? 6n2 GTi ? Mk2 Golf GTi ??

the mounting points which house the bushes on the 6n2 are around an inch wider so do not fit into the brackets on the body of the 6n.

Thats the stopping power sorted, just need to get it to go now

g60 up front is to much hassle for me so I'm just upgrading to 16v hubs and discs. with blue calipers of course

Brakes are done !! Opted for some cheaper ones then the Tarox discs & haven't fitted the master cylinder yet but there all good now. Will post some pics when its daylight

my rear brakes are done to does actually make a difference and I've got 16v brakes going up front next week

hi everybody, I'm also thinking of getting the brake upgrade done on the rear end of my car, and possibly the front end if it is a easy not so complex job.

just wanted 2 know how it is all handling, and the best setup for me to go for, i know you guys have done the conversion on rear brakes already, so some insight and info would be great, also the easiest and most accesable part list needed to do rear discs conversion would be very helpful.

my car is a polo mk4 1.4 8valve (60bhp) P-reg.
