I've got a mk3 polo

and the minilites I've just brought stick like an inch out the side of the front arches

i reckon they will be ok on the rear

I'm unsure of the et as they are minifittment and have been sprayed white so i can see none of the information on the back of the rim

i cant afford to pull my arches atm

so could anyone help me on what to do????

best way to get a accurate quote is to ring up a body shop and ask them.

a pikey flaring/pulling tool (aka a hammer) is what I've used, and a cut down bit of scaffold, run it past yrou tyre and arch and it will pull it out over the wheel and tyre, then tidy up any areas with wood and a hammer :-)

you would be better off selling them and buying something more suitable. some mini wheels are ET-7 at least

i was thinking about selling them but i really like the way they sit and i can just imagine the car with pulled arches and slammed to the floor lol

so I'm gonna keep them and try and sort my arches out myself

I'm just unsure of how to do it without splitting the paint or something

anyone got some pictures or done it before themselves or a guide or something?

machine them down abit..... not advised though

I've heard maching them down doesn't make much difference as long as its done right

to be honest, buying 8 inch wheels in mini fitment was rather retarded to be quite honest. they simply wont fit well and really in all honesty look shit...

as they are et -7 you cant get away with lowering unless you have no movement at all in your shocks, and you cant realistically flare your arches enough to accomdate them on the rear with lowerage, let alone the front.

trust me there will be chunks taken out of your tyres guaranteed...

either that or when you hit a pot hole youll just end up hitting the arch with the tyre and bending the arch to buggery.

edit: have you got wobble bolts btw, as mini wheels arent the correct pcd for vws.

theres a plentiful range of wheels available that are made to fit your car so just sell them and buy something else, you can get a set of smoors which look similar to minilights but will fit far better ensuring you can actually enjoy driving your car, instead of pranging out about blowouts, scrubbing or the feds stopping and fining your ass.

reason I'm going off on a mini ranting flex isnt anything personal tbh but I've seen what 7 inch wide mini rims have done to the tyres on a mk2 loon and its not safe or pretty

Alrite mate. Calm down. No need to be all health and safety about it. Since when has slamming a car and stretching its tyres been safe anyway? This means ill have something to work on over winter. Little chalenge. Its not the end of the world.

I would advise pilling your arches out as much as you can before getting the wheels on dude ..

I have some 7" allycats with a ET of -7 and lowerd 95mm at the front ajustable rears .

The rear arches sit perfectly as i had previously rolled these out and cut the inner lip off ..

Front arches need some attention as the tyres have fauled on the arch taking large chunks out in 2 places and bending the arch out slightly . This howver has helped with my DIY arch rolling .

I'm going to have to get on to rolloing them out in the next cpl of days then invest in another two brand new yokos .

Id advise doing it befrore you put the wheels on .. I reckon you can get away with pulling the arches out about a inch or so with a heat gun and a hammer .

I have arch trims on though which can cover up any imperfections ..

The fronts stick out about this far .. Dread to think what yopur fronts will look like mate

Takes a lot of work to make 13x8s fit on the front of a mk3 properly. 99.9% of times it just looks terrible.

I'd say sell them on and find something that fits. No point in spending fortunes making wheels fit when you don't have to.

its not about health and safety, i aint got no qualms with chopping springs or stretched tyres, but with such a plentiful supply of wheels that are actually designed for your car hub fitment and required offset, its a bit retarded to think you can simply get away with it, it seems from your initial post that you went in balls deep bareback without doing your research.

if you want to fit them by all means do, but get some wobble bolts and get someone decent to flare your arches with a proper flaring tool, and be prepared to realise that they probably will still rub on every corner and on accelerating/decellarting and youll probably need to cut out the arch lips, seperate the inner and outer wings and weld on some nice bigger arches on to them.

berg cup arches were made for a reason, and fitting wide wheels with a negative offset is the reason

but its your car, do what you want mate but I'm just giving my 2p, dont put up a post on a public forum and expect all the actual replies you want to hear as I'm voicing my opinion here as i would if you came to a meet
