Mk2 Golf Twin 40'd Aee

Featured Replies

Thought i may aswell drop a thread in here incase anyone likes golfs (they are better, but heavier... if you were wandering :-o ) It's got a small block, so not far off from most of the polo's on here.

I bought it as a standard 1.3, not anymore

Coilovers

ATS Classics

Back end stripped

Electric Recaros

Momo Team 300 Wheel

ABD

Twin 40's

Ashley 4 branch

Long Life full stainless system

Schrick 268

It's running 95BHP atf, which isn't bad, but i'm sure it could be better - either with a carb rebuild/GT injection and a Head Porting session. It's got about the same power:weight as a GTi though.

Anyway, some pics...... a little old, but it's still pretty much the same....

If its got 95bhp, how is it the same as a GTi 8v?

power:weight (: ...ratio)

All red rears work really well, so do the orange wheels.

I prefer it without the roof rack though.

Surely there is not that much wait between a 1.4 and 1.8? The GTi 8v is 936kg - 112bhp, whats yours?

have you ever tried lifting a 1.8 block? HEAVY AS FOOOOOK

you can bore them out to 2.2 or even 2.3 if your brave, so imagine how much extra metal is in there!

1.6's are worse because they use 1.8 blocks with a different bore and crank! most have 1.8 stamped on the block!

smart :D:thumbsup:

it's not just the block.......O20 gearbox is far heavier than O85

i can lift a O85 by myself.......i would'nt even try to lift a O20 without help

Yep, it's a fair amount lighter than the GTi... In practice most of them come out at a shade over a tonne. Mine weighs around 865kg...

this is the rough setup i will have in the polo, minus the Twin40's but with a full balance, headworks and raised compression, we'll see how the figures come out over xmas.

my polo with its subframe isnt going to be far off a golf beater. flys like a butterfly, stings like a bee!

^^Fair do lads, i hold my hands up.

I have bench pressed the front end of a 16v tho.

without an engine in mate?

yeah lol, all the engine + gearbox had been removed - along with interior lol.

It still had the 16v badges on it.

looks nice

you should see more than 95 brake with a bit of tinkering, I made 87 at the wheels with a single carb on a 1.3 (apparently). So theres more in the engine I reckon ;)

87 atw sounds very optimistic on a single weber (?)

Though i agree i think there's more in it... 8-)

Very nice, Always thought basic Golfs like Drivers looked cool slammed with 13's and like how you have stuck with the 1300 almost sleeper status.

87 at the fly, i'd have gone for.

Nope, mine made 68bhp on my old DMTR and the same torque, give or take a whisker's worth - 5 minutes after Matt's made a run on the same RR.

rich, you need NOS, PM tractorboy, he has andy's old 1.3 polo with twin carbs and nos. RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPID.

also, my polo will eat your golf :p

Looks sweet man, got any engine bay shots :D?

thats a corrected figure, calculated in the run out through the losses in the drivetrain, mine was a calculated 67, but only made 55ish at the wheels.

nice man. see this burnin around some times.

looks proper smart that does mate...engine bay shots would be mint :D

I'm putting bike carbs in my 1.3 golf at christmas when my engine bay is finished...

it's the mechanical head engine though '84' so I'm hoping for some silly revvage :D pushrods FTW lol

I've got a build thread going in here too...take a gander dude...let me know what you think so far :D

Jamie

I've seen this going round Plymouth a fair bit mate looks sweets as

yeh sorry I mean at the fly! my bad... feels damn nippy for a single weber tho. cant remember the figure for atw, was a fair bit lower so i dunno how that works..

and i vote yes for nitrous :D
