my mk2 is a high miler , i get the odd crunchy gear thats maybe down to a tired gearbox , but i figured its worth dropping a few quid on refurb parts for the linkage

i know the ball n cup is avail at gsf

what else can been done to refurb the linkage without going into the box ?

Well the only other part is the shift remote.

Unclip the vinyl gatier from the centre console (just give it some fingers) and look for any play in the ball-in-ring there. Re-grease if necessary.

isnt there a bush where the rod leaves the shifter box??

Thats the other end of it. I mean this end,the gear lever. Sit in the car,pull the fake-leather gatier up and look in there.
