Got out in my AX GT this weekend after 4 days of sitting waiting.

Oh my gooooodd is that a little heap of fun! Its unbelievably quick for a 1.4 and is just so chuckable. Remote central locking, electric windows etc as well, so all the creature comforts :)

Needs a little work here and there but overall a top purchase i think :-D

Agreed, they're an absolute hoot to drive, though if my old one was anything to go by, you'll spend far more time fixing it than enjoying it :(

I used to own an early (factory wide steels before the alloys) black one of these back in 1998. Were pretty quick for what they are, i used to keep up with my bro in his fietsa XR2. I dare say they will have the edge on a Polo GT due to the plastic tailgate

I'm driving a Saxo VTR at the moment, got a few mods, it's alright to drive but does need a few improvements and parts replacing!

Book 0-60 is 9.2 but i'd say they were a little on the pessimistic side to get it in a lower insurance group. Other reports have recorded as low as 8.2 secs!

Also... it weights 100+kgs less and has 15 more bhp, so its to be expected really!

Awesome cars I had one when I was 18. Worst bit about it was the speaker location. Mine was very reliable only breaking down on me once in over 50k right up until it had 130k on the clock.

A GT with 100bhp would probably be similar performance wise.

Within legal speeds, which is the top of third, they're quickkkkk. Past that the lack of real power starts to limit it.

yeah pretty much the same with GT's, not that handy on the motorway or after about 80

90-100 bhp GT's ad say is about right

VTR's are traffic light racers, they are quick to 60 but after that they don't thrill at all.

VTS's rev harder, longer and keep accelerating long after 60mph.

I'd have a Mk3 GT over either of them any day though :)
