Just a query really, I've declaired my new engine to my insurance company no probs there, but was just wondering if i didnt fill out the V5 document with the new chassy number and engine size ect would anything happen in the event of a claim?

I dont have a problem with filling out the V5, and i know my tax will go up with it being a bigger engine, but i was just thinking that i bet a lot of people DON'T declaire it to the DVLA, so i was wondering what the implications would be, cause there must be some?

i dont know the exact implications but a friend of mine had his car impounded when he was arrested, they later found out that he had upgraded from a 1.6 to a 1.6 rs engine in his escort, he got fined £1200 and had 4 points put on his license, still got to keep the car tho

I wasn't sure if they send someone out to inspect your car with it having a change of tax band either?

I gotta put my car though MOT on Tuesday, and i am a bit worried that because at the moment it is still a 1.4 on the log book it might fail on the emitions (sp?)

if it's a bigger lump they come down hard on you for tax evasion! probably unlikely they'll find out right away tho. need to get it re-registered can be a lengthy proccess!

should still pass mot as requirements are still same, but need to get logbook sent off and then re-classified

Is it just the engine you've changed?

I cant see it being much hassle changing it, there's a section on the V5 to fill in, thats about it.

best way to do it is leave the engine size the same and just change the engine number on the log book

Surely in an insurance claim incident, if they checked the engine code due to the fact that it's been changed, they'd realise that it doesnt match up with the logbook engine size.

Insurance companies can be bastards, if they knew about the engine swap when sorting a claim, i think they'd go through every detail..

as smithy said, insurance companies try to not pay out and if they can find a way not to they will!!

a friend of mine bought a car not knowing it was chipped, he crashed and obv dint quote the chip on his insuranceso the bastards dintpay out then tried to get him done for not having valid insurance!!

my mate just had his 986cc mk1 fiesta MOTd and all they've done is written on the advisory:

"Incorrect engine type for car 1600cc ohc not 1000cc ohv"

when i did my 20vt conersion into polo i went into a dvla office. i filled out a v10, so i could get the relavent tax, and filled out the relavent boxes on the v5 ( engine number and cc size ). the dvla office then sent the v5 off and they gave me the new tax disc there and then. only took 10 minutes. obviously you need valid insurance declaring the new engine and a indate mot for the tax.

thank you very much for this info, i will be going to dvla in leeds on tuesday after i got the car MOT'd.

the only things i am worried about are:

a) my insurance certificate has not changed, i am with adrian flux so when i rang them to to tell them about the engine change they just sent me a letter saying 'thanks for your recent changes' .. thats it

and

b) i'll have to take the tax disk out of the car to go to into the dvla office, so what if a car parking warden is an d**k and puts a fine on my car for not showing a valid tax disk? I'm sure it will be fine, but it really wouldbe just my luck for this to happen.
