Looking for a sub!

Featured Replies

I'm looking for sub to go in my polo mk4. Only problem is boot space is really important to me, so i want a descent sound without losing to much space!

I've seen a few small factor subs but are they actually any good?

is this too good to be true!?

Looking at spending around £200

Cheers!

dont no about that sub it self but i no small subs can be realy bassy!

i had a 8inch sony explode sub and it was realy realy good

alot better than my 12 and 15 inch ones

i recon 8inch subs have more bass than 12 and 15 lol so i just stick to 8 or 10inch now!

but i highly recomend the sony explode 8 or 10inch in a active box!

mega bass :-D

^^^ balls tbh

you can make a fibreglass enclosure in the side of you boot pretty easily.

or there are people/componies that can, if you want to save space.

then get a decent 10 or a slightly less decent 12 in there.

the bigger the speaker the it is, this can of course be overcome by better engineering, ie: a JL 8w7 will be louder than a cheap 12.

you can get a 'free air' sub that doesnt need a box only a mounting surface i think pioneer and infinity make them

and also you cold get some JL audio 6" mids to go in the front door and run them off a mono amp giving you the same air movement as a single 12"

there are lots of options bar the boot you could even make a box to go in the passenger foot well

or there are active sub box's that are desighned to be installed under the seat

The enclosure makes more difference than the sub size.

Even an 8" in a normal 1cu.ft box will take up room, 6n bootas arent big.

Whereas you could have a 12" in a custom stealth box at one side and have loads of boot space left.

If you're after an 8 though, MTX's thump.

and also you cold get some JL audio 6" mids to go in the front door and run them off a mono amp giving you the same air movement as a single 12"

eerrmm explain more please...

2 6" subs will be moving the same amount of air as 1 12" sub

6 x 2 = 12

Not 100% though.. a pair of 6" mids in the doors would be like a fart compared to a 1k rms 12" sub.

Got a 8" Rockford DVC sub sat around doing nowt! Still in original box.

Not 100% though.. a pair of 6" mids in the doors would be like a fart compared to a 1k rms 12" sub.

thats a different beasty all to gether

2 JL audio 6's @ 125rms @ 4ohms each would be nice and bassy in the doors

I'm running the comps and they have loads of mid bass but i like bass so iv got a 12 in the boot that i have wired the amp to the box and use one of those VIBE fast plug things on so if i need the boot space i can unplug it all it 2 mins B)

DON'T GIVE OUT DUFF ADVICE. IF YOU DON'T KNOW THE ANSWER THEN DON'T ANSWER - SIMPLE!!!

;)

a fairly decent 8" sub in 0.5cft box with 6-700wrms up its arse should do the job nicely.

have you already got an amp to power it with ??

lol doesnt mean that it'l sound the same as a 12incher, 2 6" mids certainly will not move the same amount of air as one 12" as the volume of air moved doesnt just depend on the total surface area of the speakers, also depends on the amount of excursion ;) a 12" sub has a MUCH higher displacement than both 6" door speakers together

cheers for the help guys!!

I've gone for one of these from bassjunkies...

Toxic-TXA-400.jpg

I wanted an amplified unit so if I need my boot back for any reason, it can be removed pretty easy!!

What you guys think?

Did originally want the VIBE 8" but its recently been discontinued. That was only 120! this one is a 10.

lol i never worked out why people think buying a powered sub makes it easy to remove from the car...

whatever happened to screwing your amplifier to the back of the sub box, still the same amount of wiring needs to be removed, and it all comes out as one...and you can upgrade it easier...and you can get a much more powerful system for the same price as a powered one...

I had this one installed today and it sounds great! Real nice lows, descent bass! Think there is 2 woofers on this I'm not sure...

Seems to be a sub either side!?!?

Anyways I'm happy with it!

Cheers for all the help guys!

infinty basslinks arent that bad I've got one in the boot of my mk4 golf andf it adds more than enough bass so unless your after something so you can be heard coming a mile off that'll do you fine, also if you go for the basslink 2 it comes with an external bass controler which is good can turn it from near enough nothing to as much as it can handle with out touching your headunit

i made mine with fibreglass, used a jbl gt4-10 1000 watt max, with a 1000 watt fli amp.

sounds absolutely awesome.

have a look at one of these

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/pioneer-ts...ccoe0ftdhql8st1

takes up no space atall can stack luggage on top and sounds amazing not as powerful as some of these amps but does give a good bass tone and is in your price range, also a good thing it has a built in amp I'm saving my pennys for one.
