Cheers guys, yeh Toby standard bodged onto the stainless mani just to keep the decibels down and the neighbours happy. spoke to powerflow yesterday so that'll get sorted next week when i figure how to get it there!

Still got some strange issues to resolve, for those eagle eyed viewers you will notice the ht leads are all moved round one because when its at tdc the rotor arms in a funny place for some reason + the dizzy itself is twisted all the way round. Any ideas?

Cant seem to get the oil pressure to stop buzzing either. got a few different sensors lying around and a blue/black & yellow/black wire. Dont know which is high and which is low but so far no combination of the two makes it shut up. or it will be fine until you rev it and then it will buzz :-S

Does anyone know the standard front track width on a mk3?

Also, I think I need a new battery, it really struggles to turn over sometimes, it starts well in the video because it was run like 2 seconds before.

Had it running for a good 2mins earlier though and it hasnt exploded so thats a bonus :-D

chris with a mk1 golf afh engine with an 8p box fitted a mk4 fly and mk3 clutch with mk4 starter as its slimmer, the mk4 flywheel wouldnt engage so he had to take it apart again and fit a mk3 fly! g

You use just one oil sensor Dan, low IIRC

Renegade440 engraved door handle inserts make my life better!

Oh shit, just realised I'm logged in as my bro, its brett lol

For some reason it seems to take ages for the revs to drop after you rev it, anyone have any idea why this could be?

sticking linkages? how free are they when you throttle by hand? are they slow to return?

  • Author

Seems to make no difference if I turn the wheel by hand or use cable. Its more like the engine itself that takes time to return to idle speed

I noticed both of your stated issues straight off in the vid, no idea why it slows down to idle so slow, your dizzy should be almost all the way around I'm sure, why does the lead go over the top. Dan rev it up by hand then turn the wheel back fast after you rev it and see if the revs drop quickly, if so its the throttle bodies sticking!

Mine does that. I think i have a slight air leak though. Wrap your hands round each join to each carb when revving to see if you have a leak. It could also be the ign.timing I've been told.

As above, I'd be looking at air leaks, over-fuelling and ign timing

Its probably all of those to be fair lol after 3 years I'm just happy to hear it running at all!

Mine does it at the moment but shes not been strobed up yet and i dont no what fuel pressure to run whether to stick to 1.5 psi like i was with the 'gt on the same carbs. I like yours matey!!

Does anyone know of anywhere in the midlands, i.e as close to me as possible with a rolling road and the ability to tune these carbs as I spoke to Roger at Aldon Automotive and theres no chance of getting it in there for another 4-6 weeks which kind of screws my All Types Show deadline right up!!

Did you get a price for having um set up there dude?

Any news on this?

I think the engines in... Not spoken to Dan since. So not sure if its running etc again.

Hes a man of silence is Briscoe.

Its getting there, kinda no point posting pics of what i'm doing as everyone's doing it these days lol

Think I found the culprit as to why the original engine failed, found an oil pump bracket bolt loose in the sump... oooppps! Ah well live and learn

Progress wise the new engine is being painted up, just taking this time to improve a few bits I wasnt happy with the first time around.

Oil pickup's the other style on this engine (there are some etka screenshots of the two types sumwhere in this thread) So I'm leaving the deeper sump on and modding it around the subframe the same as Narrowlanes. That was welded today so hopefully its a matter of days before shes back on the road!

Bring on the AFH Smiles :-D

I believe they are Escort Cosworth seats so they're currently on ford subframes, wonder what the chances of them fitting the cobra frames I have in at the moment are...?
