chris with a mk1 golf afh engine with an 8p box fitted a mk4 fly and mk3 clutch with mk4 starter as its slimmer, the mk4 flywheel wouldnt engage so he had to take it apart again and fit a mk3 fly! g

is it necessary to install a salzmann frame or any similar frame-construction when this motor has to be installed?

no.

Hurry up n get the new engine in :p

Cannot wait to see the new engine go in, i am realy intrested in doing this conversion myself. Are there any other AFH conversion threads both MikeyMK and Polo13 dont have conversion threads to have a nosey at :(. Also in another thread about engine conversion threads ect it was mentioned that to do an afh conversion you have to modify the skuttle and do something to the master cylinder to accomadate the engine. is this true?

Good luck with the conversion.

Cheers, Moza

Nice car and nice project! Love those wheels and am so jealous of those rust-free arches :'(

so it will fit basically straight in with no engine bay mods as such. sounds good then. will keep my eyes open for an engine then.

Cheers mate, yeah i was very lucky with the wheels, they poped up in the forsale section and within about 10mins they were mine :-D Thinking of getting them powder coated now. Was lucky with the car too, in very good condition and an unusual colour too

the audi one always looks better, always go for clear indicators dude, you cant go wrong with them really, but then you will have noobs sayin why have you got an audi grille on a volkswagen, but meh i prefer the audi grille =]

but WHY would you want an audi grill on a vw... you would look almost as gay as people who stick r32 badges on golfs and cossie badges on escorts?

  • Author

lol I only like that grille because it causes controversy!

I've got a nice little red 16v badge that will sit in the bottom corner of the de-badged grill, apart from that there isnt going to be much to give away whats hiding under the bonnet... except the noise

Good to see progress, cant wait for you to get the new lump in, sorry for cluttering the thread but have you thought about wiring yet? i am just about to get my 1.4 16v from the scrappers and just wondering how all the loom will go together. when i was looking at the 16v lump i noticed that the lighting loom and engine loom is all in one unlike on mk3's. So i am guessing a bit of splicing is going to be in order to get it to working. if you have any wiring details from MikeyMK ect is there a chance of maybe posting some info up?

Thanks, Moza

if you decide to get rid of one of them audi grilles dan gis a shout dude

Not 100% sure what route I'm gona go down with regards to wiring yet, might go carbs or IT'B if i can afford it

Yer i thinck i am going to ring Bogg Brothers up and have a speak to them about it. I am realy tempted by bike carbs personally, Nice tidy engine bay too. The only problem i can thinck of is getting a suitable vac advanced distributer, not sure if one of a carbed polo will fit being older engines ect. I will get in contact and post up what they say about it.

Moza

MH ...... engine code rings a bell ......... I stand corrected if I'm wrong.
