She'll be there in spirit lol :-) But you might have to wait till next years poloshow to see it in the flesh lol

couple of questions for you, I'm doing this over this weekend, so thought i would ask you.

1, did the alternator touch the chassis leg? - how have you resolved this?

2, are the anti roll bar blocks required or just a personal mod?

3, what is the electrical connection for on your 600 carbs, i have the same carbs but dont have an electrical connection

4, what clutch kit did you buy? standard 1.3 mk3, g40, or a performance one?

love the awning, have a similar set up at the mo with my engine setting up!

hope all goes well.

Rick

Well.... you'll see in a few months time lol

Edit: I will say one thing... What Anti Roll Bar?!

ah good lad, although its easier to just measure your wheelbase and adjust the arms to that, assuming your rear beam is straight.

once small bit of advice, if you can afford them, G40 TCAs with polybushed outers will make it all worth while, or just regular arms with poly outers, i had regular arms on mine for a while and the rubber bushes got mashed on the outside.

Rick,

1, did the alternator touch the chassis leg? - how have you resolved this?

It doesnt touch but its dam close, the arb mount will need some angle grinding so that the belt fits without rubbing on it.

2, are the anti roll bar blocks required or just a personal mod?

They are required to bring the arb forward and downwards away from the block otherwise you will have issues with the arb not clearing the exhaust.

3, what is the electrical connection for on your 600 carbs, i have the same carbs but dont have an electrical connection

Not a clue bud, electrics are not my forte!

4, what clutch kit did you buy? standard 1.3 mk3, g40, or a performance one?

Persoanlly went with the mk4 16v clutch but i believe you could use a g40 one or even an aftermarket upgraded one

once small bit of advice, if you can afford them, G40 TCAs with polybushed outers will make it all worth while, or just regular arms with poly outers, I had regular arms on mine for a while and the rubber bushes got mashed on the outside.

Having real trouble finding G40 TCA's for sale along with the G40 VW11 brakes!

Guess I'm just going to have to wait until they pop up for sale

3, what is the electrical connection for on your 600 carbs, i have the same carbs but dont have an electrical connection

The little box thing on the side? It's the throttle position sensor, you won't need it.

Hehe, cheers goose :-)

awesome thanks for the help, one more thing (will be more in the future no doubt!) where did you get your anti roll bar blocks from? I'm still struggling for a starter, would you be able to get the part number off yours?

editted for - if you use the mk4 clutch, why dont you use the mk4 fleywheel/stater? - could i use this route as I'm struggling with the starter and its the only thing holding me up.

thanks

Rick

I see no reason why you couldnt use the mk4 clutch / flywheel and therefore starter, the only reason everyone goes for the mk3 fly is beause it is a fair bit lighter

Part number cound be a bit of an issue, it will be at least beginning of next week before I get chance to have a look! I'll see what I can do

thats great, to get me up and running ill go the mk4 route then. thank you so much.

where do i get my anti-roll bar blocks from?

I'm so excited, hope its running by monday! bring on the sunshine - sick of the rain.

mine will not be as clean as yours, i am literally removing and dumoing back in, if it works, then ill remove it and tidy it all up - paint, clean etc.

good work and good luck.

Rick

  • 2 weeks later...

renegade have you got yours wired in yet? I'm not getting a spark and its doing my fruit in!

all sorted, a week from running t running!! when you come to wire yours up, if you struggle ill see if i can help, just dont earth the red/black wire from the coil - side as its no an earth and will prevet a spark!!

when it fires, you will have the biggest grin!

i had to strip the two alternators down and on the 16v it has the ribbed part for the belt and a spacer section, i cut off the spacer section and used the washers that came from the original mk3 one to get to line up, a right pain the arse getting the belt inbetween the chassis and bottom pulley, unless you put it on before fitting the engine - i didnt! MAKE sure you use one of the spring washer its a funny shaped washer - like its bent, make sure you use it as i didnt and my alternator bolt flew off after it had been running for a short time!

i dont have any pictures of what i did with mine, but with a bit of fiddling it will sort itself out.

good luck

Rick

have you got any websites/info on the 600 carbs? so i can have a read up

What do you want to read up about the carbs humer?

Plenty of info on sticking bike carbs on in the engine section with a quick search

ill have a read up goose, it was just understanding setting up the idle and whats what with them.

ta.

Can pm me a photo of yours carbs if you want mate and I should be able to let you know what each bit is and how to set the idle and that up.

cheers Goose, i took it a friend who works on bikes abnd he gave me a quick heads up of whats what, gave me some little ports to fit into my inlet manifold so he can balance my carbs for me. so hopefully it will help with the setting up.

renegade we need updates fella, how you getting on?

I've finally got mine sorted properly, you will have the biggest grin when you get yours set up, i had drilled my jets to 1.5 but found it over fueled, so i have now dropped them to 1.3 and it is an absolute flying machine!

hope thats of some use to you.
