Polo GT

Featured Replies

I have a polo GT that I'm considering selling. Dunno what they're worth anymore, the prices I've seen so far seem ridiculous but I'm not complaining being as I'm on the selling side of it, lol. I'm either gonna reshell the engine as it's a good'un or just fuck the car off and get a Caddy I think, or if its not worth it il keep it and drive it til it dies (now that i rebuilt it that'll be a long time though).

So: the spec is:

a drilled airbox.

That's it. All std.

tax and mot til July

I got the car as a runaround and forgot how much fun and how fuckin poky GT's are! I use it mainly to go to college and back (about 30miles a day). Never had any problems with it. I bought it off my brother, who bought it off a guy in Evesham, he drove it for a week then the cambelt stripped some teeth and resulted in 3 mildly bent valves. I got it off him and rebuilt the top end, new valves, valve stem oil seals, head gasket, etc. dizzy cap, rotor arm, leads, plugs, and so on (if I do something I do it properly, or not at all). I've done 4k in this beast all over the UK since about May going to and from races (I'm a GT4 mechanic at weekends and a HND Mechanical Engineering student in the week).

Stuck a new petrol tank in for MOT, rear wheel bearing, front wheel bearing, rear shoes and wheel cylinders, I think I did the front brakes too, if not i got them somewhere (they don't need done though, just got various polo parts from previous cars, still got a G40 boot lid from 2yrs ago!)

bad bits: Its a rough shell to be fair, it's no minter, it's had a hard life as a builders car (used to get about in not for work as such) but has signs of this such as the roof having bits of cement type stuff on it, it's had a minor rear left knock and leaks from the light (that's probably more to do with 2 out of 3 nuts missing from the tailight unit). it's got various dents, the worst being the wing where my brother clipped it in his 306, or the roof above the drivers head where I was stood on it to put a marquee up. Be under no illusions, this has been used and abused. The engine and gearbox are good though, no smoke or oil usage, knocking tapping, banging etc (it will tap for about 1 second on dead cold start up, needs an oil change/flush to sort it. Needs suspension as it's beginning to get a little bouncy (amplified by the shit front end bushes), exhaust rubber, new front bushes (got some poly ones) and top mounts (got them too). Could do with a service and general check over. fuel cap seal needs replaced. Battery tray was rotten so i chopped it out and siliconed an Ali panel in. Not leaked in 4 months that I've done it, passed mot with it too.

Basically if you wanna use it to battle about in or Rat, it's ideal. If you want a minter, get another shell.

Now, I'm not particularly sure why I want to sell it, I think it's a case of itchy feet, since I cant afford a Duke 3 and its not wirth selling my Duke 2, I reckion that'll be why the car is up for grabs. Weird I know. I never own a car for more than 6 months tops normally. I really want another project but no time money or space means that rules that out (as well as the reshelling it into a caddy or mk1 golf that i want to do). So I think I'd be up for a px or swap for a caddy. or just selling it.

What's it worth then people? Fuck all? in which case I'll keep it, or is it worth like £600 or something?

Hi,

Just wondering if you had the mileage to hand, any reciepts for the recent engine re-build components and/or any pics?

Cheers

I did the work at 119k miles, now at 123/124k miles. I have receipts for everything I've done, very little for anything before that though. What do you want pictures of? I'll take some tomorrow.

Any general pics of the exterior/interior of the car, perhaps with one or two of the engine bay (would be good to just get a photographic idea of the condition - to compliment your extensive description).

I have to say though, going by how it weighs up on paper, I'm not sure I'd personally be willing to pay £600.

This isn't a dig - someone else may well be!

Cheers

That's alright, I'm on here to see if it's worth selling. i.e.if I can get something else to replace it for the same kinda money. if its worth fuck all I'll keep it, if its worth selling, i'll sell 8-)

As I said, I got no idea what it's worth. Peculiar scene VW's. You can sell a mangered old piece oif shit for loadsa money if its in fashion at the time where a good quality car with nothing wrong can be worthnothing just cuz it ain't the flavour of the moment. Looking about for other cars to gauge a price off, I couldn't find any on ebay or autotrader so I came on here to see what its worth and if anyones interested.

So if anyone wants to offer me something, feel free. As long as its not something stupid like £100. Ultimately, it is a car with long MOT and tax thats cheap to run, just looks like a shitter and wants some TLC. I'm considering buying another shell and reshelling it, but as I said, that's hassle that I could do without (money time, space, so on & so on) or perhaps just fixing it up a bit with some cheap 2nd hand bits, I could redo the from end suspension in about 2 hours, its just getting round to it and is it worth spending the money when i could just get another car........ you get the idea.

I do know what you mean; Despite not wanting to turn this into a conversational thread (it is in the 'classifieds' section afterall), I agree with the injust nature of vehicles that have a lot of time and money poured into them which is rarely even recognised, let alone appreciated, when the time comes to move it on. That compared to some which have the bare minimum spent on them to keep them legal and often go for the same money!

Cutting to the chase, I'll send you a pm shortly with the amount of cash I could pay for the car and how quickly I could pick it up etc.
