Hi,

I know some of you have pressed metal plates (like the German ones), I was wondering what the best way of fitting them is without putting screws through them?

I have got the front one on with some heavy duty velcro strips from Halfords and although it looks ok when you stand back, you can see the velcro under the plate when you stand at the front of the car.

I have my back one in a plate holder and that is screwed to the boot door but it doesn't look that good as the boot is a bit curved and the plate holder is straight so the ends poke outwards slightly. I've tried putting heavy duty velcro pads on the two top corners but it just doesn't look right.

What methods have you used to get your plates on?

more velcro.. sticky pads.. pannel bond.. plate holders. bout you only choices. flex the plate a little to the shape u puttin it on.

I've used sticky pads but velcro is calling.

Velcro is just too thick though, you can see it between the plate and the car!

I did bend the front plate a bit so that's ok, the rear plate I can't bend because it's in a plate holder. I may need to just get rid of the holder and stick on the plate by itself.

plate holders both ends although I don't have problems with curved edges.

If you dont need to remove the plate (i.e they're road legal),then padded double sided sticky tape is your answer.

Approx 1mm thick,its available in rolls from good motor factors,Hobbycraft etc.

heavy duty velcro

i made an alloy plate same size as numberplate then fitted flush fitting studs powdercoated it and stuck number plate to plate with windscreen mirror stickers , looks great and you dont need to drill plate so no water damage to numberplate, and no mounting screws showing , i have done this on 4 different vws

no more nails double sided tape, strong as you like but doesnt leave a mess if you take plate off
